Thoughts on 35's
Looking at 35' Lightnings.......500 EFI's, what are the pros and cons, what type of speeds can be expected?
Thanks |
With 525 EFI's I can run mid 90's.. upper 90s' with light fuel etc is possible with 97.5 documented on tattle tale, i'll let it get real light and see if I can get 100 mph. I would guess 7-10 mph slower with 500 EFI
The cockpit is a bit narrower than a fever but it is deeper. a 6th passenger cannot kneel between the front bolsters.. I can walk around the cockpit though and its relatively easy to get on the foredeck...Standard graphics are pretty good. The ride is very smooth. My wife likes the head and the vacuflush is efficient. Built in fender holders for 8" fenders are nice. Integrated ladder is cool especially if you are used to climbing out of the water on the sterndrive or k planes...The port battery is hard to get to, made worse by low profile battery boxes on mine (dont fit any batteries you can easily buy....)....Sea strainers and closed cooling are standard on the lightning...at least the recent ones... The built in anchor and anchor locker beats the old system... |
how does it comapre to the executioner? I was thinking they would both run in the 80's (with 500's).....

What year are you looking at? I have a 97 with 500HP's (Carbed) and it runs out in the low 80's. Easy to trailer for a decent sized boat and has good dock manners as well. Good luck with your search.

Had a '99 35 (same hull as the newer Executioners) with 500 Carbs, ran lower 80's on a good day and pretty much 80 anyday with labbed props. Loved the boat, handled like a dream. A man can not go wrong with a boat like that.
Have an '06 twin step Lightning now with 525's, this boat I truely love. Has run a best of 94, most any day it will run 90 or a tick over. The 525 EFI's are a dream to operate and maintain. Turn the key and go! The same twin step hull with 500 EFI's should run mid 80's, some have run a little more than that with shorties and the perfect props. Same twin step hull Lightnings with the staggered set up will run upper 90's to a little over 100 with the 525's. The staggered boats start with the '07 and up models. |
35' was the best selling Fountain ever!Buy it!

My 35 twin step with 500 EFI's, XZ drives and labbed 30P B1 props topped out at 86-87 mph on GPS at local lake with 2 adults. Could get 85 out of it on almost any day. Friend of mine had an 04 35 twin step with 525's and XR drives and we routinely saw 90 on his boat spinning Herring props. I think best he saw as right at 92.

I have a 97 35 Lightening Classic, love the boat, I have the 525 SC's best I've ever gotten for speed is 79.9mph, could never get her to go over 80 mph.
Drive one I bet you'll like it. |
