I will chime in about an older single step 35 with Carbs. It is a great boat and pretty easy on fuel as long as you aren't running sticks up everywhere (mine runs out in the low to mid 80's depending on fuel load). It is a light boat and loves the chop. My LOTO trip in it was a little extreme - but I am getting better with the tabs so I really look forward to running it there this summer for the fun run.
EFI's would be nice - but the carbs are alot easier to work on.

The low pro windshields are prolly as low or lower than most fairings, there are 2 styles & you are prolly seeing the taller!!!

I can not comment on the strength of the frame on the windshield of the Lightning as I had a Classic which is the same as the EX. Those windshields are not strong, I broke mine, they are expensive and tough to change. I have only seen the Lightnings from the dock, they appear to have a metal frame and glass rather than plexiglass.

I think the race fairing is going to be a must for me. Wish Reggie had put an opening in the large lightning window.

My 93 35' was a great boat and built better than the 05 42.

So what do you consider low hours??? high hours??? remembering that I am talking in context of looking at used boats. With cars the rule of thumb is 15K miles/ year is average ~ is there a rule of thumb when it comes to boats??

I hope this isnt a hijack but what would be the minimum slip size for a 35 to fit in?

I know there are alot of variables, but if the beak hangs over the front of the slip could you get it in a 32 foot slip?

Back in a 35' in a 32' slip you will need about 2ft from your swimplatform to the dock. Thus 5' of beak will hang out.

Not sure what the rules are re: overage at the docks or is this a residential pier of yours?

Depends on your engine HP. Assuming stock 502's/415hp low hrs IMO is under 200hrs. High is 500hrs +.

Some will get 7-800 hrs without anything but that is rare due to the load and running hard with a go-fast.

I'd say general running hrs is between 50-100 hrs per year.
