I already have a 27' Captiva SS, and although it is not a fountain, it is an excellent starter performance boat (496HO). We don't fish at all and tube very little--pretty much just drive around, and then park it and swim/tie-off with friends. Not overly concerned about room, as I'm not one that wants 10 people on my boat everytime we go out.
I have younger boys, but believe me, they LOVE going fast in the boat!! |
Not to mention insurance

Not true Pooky. You my friend are on the wrong forum. Try a Bayliner, way cheaper and more room. You pay 20k for a boat you get a 20k boat. Enjoy!!

If you can't afford the insurance, you can't afford the boat.

If you think about it take a 2000 Fountain compared to a 93 or any brand for that matter. Sure you can get into things like stepped hulls etc. But nothing is all that different on them beyond different graphics and paint schemes. Engines are the same drives are the same. I would actually contented that the paint schememes on the boats from about 94-2000 are the worst with all that purple, pink and yellows. |
Boxer...did what you are looking to do this year
Hey man...I did exactly what are looking to do this year. I can tell you the good, the bad and the ugly. Let me know if you would like to chat offline.

I have had go fast boats and cruisers up to a 29 Sea Ray Sundancer with twins, and I can tell you you are better off with your current boat than a $25k Fountain. You would need a 35 Fountain to have a similar amount of cabin and the maintenance and cost of twins.
My advice is to stick with your current boat for two more years or so and get about 40-45k together for a newer and larger Fountain that you can enjoy with the whole fam |
