Not gonna make the Shootout....had some shipping delays and the Hurricane in NC is causing some issues for RF. Shooting for heading to NC a week from today to test run, and tow it back to Table Rock Lake in time for Labor Day.

Maybe next year...If we dont blow it up again. :evilb:

Thanks for getting back to me last time...In the process of sending my 47 lightning to RF to redo my stringers. also thinking about raising my x dimension to a point where I will be surfacing the whole drive and prop. I have heard that being up that high puts a lot of strain on your prop shaft where as only the bottom half of the prop is pushing the boat. in my mind it's like its trying to break the shaft off. i have heard of late model executioners with ITS drives repeatedly breaking off prop shafts. i am running imco sc lowers 1 1/4 prop shaft, which i think are similar to your sport masters. have you have any trouble with prop shafts or drive failure due to cooling?

Getting close, props should be here tomorrow. Just finishing up the little odds & ends, should be in the water by the middle of next week.

575cat 08-29-2011 09:04 PM

Hey 47 lightning , I believe Reggie would give the best answer on this , I have not had any propshaft problems yet knock on wood , I have got 7 blade 33 props in the works now , as per Reggies recommendation , good luck with yours.

TRL505 08-30-2011 09:58 AM

Flying out to RF tomorrow. Should be tuning/testing all day Thursday/Friday.

We got the lowers back from Wilson Performance...Craig Wilson said they were the worst set of lowers he has seen in 30 yrs..lol. Lets hope we got some speed out of them. Craig is a stand up very professional honest guy and was a pleasure to work with. He got our lowers turned around in no time.

Keeping fingers crossed for 115-120...

Keep it coming , sounds great and have fun !

Reggie Fountain 08-30-2011 03:49 PM

So very close, will be finishing up everything tomorrow & heading to the water on Thursday.

Any updates?

Reggie Fountain 09-02-2011 06:33 PM

Ran the 42 today, first time in the water & first pass picked up almost 20 mph & there's more left. The boat ran great.

MrSneakAttack 09-02-2011 07:24 PM

sweet....need more details :coolcowboy:

PARADISE ISLAND 09-02-2011 10:09 PM

78+20=98???

TRL505 09-03-2011 01:25 AM

Just got back from RF. WOW. What a great experience. Reggie, Lil Reggie and Wyatt treated me and my brother like Kings. Great Family...with TONS of knowledge...Thank you to all the Fountains (The Family that is).

Had a small engine hickup...the Stbd motor is going back to Tyler next week...looks to be a water reversion issue...possibly a leak in the header....such is life.

Good news is...

1.boat ran 110MPH @ only 5400 RPM, and with one sick motor. Lil R is going to pull the 1" spacer out to get it to spin to 5800. Motors were not making near peak HP @ 5400....there is a lot left on the table as far as speed goes. Lil R couldn't even air it out for more than a few seconds till the motor issue came up.

2. Everything RF did/suggested we do added significant speed to the boat. (water pickups, raising drives, blueprinting bottom, Wilson Blueprint of lowers, Hering Props...etc)

Bad news is:

1. We are running out of boating season and I want to run this *****!!!:evilb:

Im not just saying this to be a suck ass...but, anyone who is either perplexed or stumped on how to get more speed out of their boat....give RF a call. We have been struggling for years on the right setup...and in a little less than a month they had it figured out.

Thanks again guys!

I always say boats and cars are just mechanical devises and you are going to have some issues , sounds like you have made allot of progress in a short amount of time thanks to the guys who know what they are doing !! and they are not wasting your time .good luck and keep us posted , got any pics yet .

Ill load some pics on Tues.

575cat 09-04-2011 10:40 AM

TRL , are you having reversion problems at idle rpm or do you think you have a cracked header ? if its a header I hope you are not going to put tube headers back on again .

MrSneakAttack 09-04-2011 10:47 AM

keep it at 5400rpm and go enjoy it.....extra r's for a few more mph u gonna hate it in the long run imo....sounds like u have had a good experiance first had with the rf team...nice job :coolcowboy:

Yeah......thats probably not gonna happen. :lolhit:

We do 90% of our boating @ 60-70MPH....but If I want to lay it down...then I want the R's available. We have been assured that 5700-5800 is well within the range as long as we dont hold it there for eons. I know the risks of Hydraulic cam setups above 5900, so that is being taken into consideration...we boat on a calm fresh water lake...Keep you fingers crossed.

If not CMI's....then what type of headers would you suggest?

We will know more once CMI pressure tests headers....not for sure yet what the deal is. I have also had a few engine builders say the head possibly lifted and gasket failed...thus causing a lean condition...and smoking the #4 piston. However, engines both had break in and multiple full dyno pulls with no head lifting issues. Tyler did NOT use our headers during dyno testing...as they were in the Boat...which was at RF. He used his "dyno" set...which leads everyone to believe its a cracked header.

Thoughts?

575cat 09-05-2011 06:30 PM

that freaken sucks ! I have the stainless marine gen 3 with 4.5 inch pipes and running GGB muffs and 1060 to 1100 hp still pull past 6100 easily , tube headers are fragile and need allot of support for all the shaking going on , Stainless marine now makes 525 manifolds if you still have the 525 heads . hope things get better for you . you should talk to Eddie young for his thaughts , it probably should of had the finale tune in the boat .

Tyler does a Dyno tune..then brings laptop and does a lake tune @ 100 RPM intervals to keep AFR and MAP in check throughout the entire RPM range. I believe he typically loads a "safe" tune on the dyno..then tweaks it during final lake testing. FYI....for now we do have the stock 525 heads...but may go to a DART heads that flow a little more in the future.

Man...If I went with Stainless Marine (or any other manifold/header)...then I would have to probably reconfigure tail pipes...and we just spend 5k on new ones since we raised X-Dimension...and deleted the silent choice. This is getting very old.....

575cat 09-05-2011 07:25 PM

totally agree with you on the exhaust deal $$$$$$, hope they get it figured out what went wrong , at least he tuned it in the boat . keep us posted .

I ran across a thread where Eddie had good things to say about Hardin Marine headers....I see that they make a 525 replacement.

lifesaboat 09-05-2011 09:19 PM

Not meaning to highjack thread, but what kind of #'s are you seeing from your boat with the new setup 575cat?

DareDevil 09-05-2011 10:23 PM

Stainless Marine HIGH TOURGE III is the way to go , they LAST FOR EVER !!!!!! and are light aswell !

575cat 09-06-2011 07:41 AM

I have my so called spare props that I baught cheap bone stock 15.5/8 35 maximus and to my surprise ran it up to 115 at 6100 + and ran my new hering 15.5 33 6 blades made a quick stab with those when Eddie young was up here tuning the engines and hit 6200 at 95 easy so sent those back and as Reggie recomended I am waiting on 33 7 blades from hering. TRL you are right hardin does make replacement for the 525 headers , that might be your only bolt on option .

thanks for the pics and keep em coming , in post 111 with engines in the bilge it looks like you have allot more room than mine , I moved the starboard engine ahead 6.5 inches otherwise I would have to cut out the whole inner gunnel lip , now my air intake is facing the inner gunnel and about 5.5 inches away and I have about 1.5 inches from the top of the blower to the bottom of the hatch , also my starboard blower belt is about a thumbs width to the port engine manifold , tight fit ! thats why was wondering how Reggie was going to get such a high X and keep from interfearing with the inner gunnel flange ? looks great !

You got a pic of your engine compartment? Id like to get a visual of what you are talking about.
