29 fountain fuel consumption

just bought a 97 fountain fever 29 with twin 468 big blocks, my last boat was a scarab 22 with a 454 mag. i figured my fuel consumption would double because of having two motors. i had the boat out last weekend i ran it three days and i cost me $350 in fuel my scarab would of did the same on $100 or less. i love the fountain but i am wondering about fuel consumption and am considering selling the boat do to high operating cost. is it normal to use that much fuel, i run both boats hard.

Gallons...we need gallons. $350 doesn't mean anything, depending where you are and how much fuel costs there....

FWIW, I burned about 75 gallons in 2 days of running around in my 28 Sunsation with 496 HO.

3 days... not very useful to calculate... If you run hard, I'd say 25 to 30 gal / hour each engine. WOT around 35 gal / hour per engine. so, 50 to 70 gal/hour, or... at 3.50$ per gal, that's 175$ /hour to 245$ / hour...

don't know what to say, but 350$ for 3 days... = 115$ per day.

That's cheap!!!

My formula 35-7 ran on average 20 gal/hour on a yearly basis, mostly at 3500 rpm... so...

hope it helps anyways...:drink:

im concidering selling the boat and going back to one motor. i was thinking about buying a cat with a single that way i can still do 80 with one motor. im the type of person if the boat is on its wide open

I go thru 200 gallons on a poker run weekend and 100+ on a normal summer weekend with a single engine 27 footer.
Its not the engine its the size and weight AND the engines, you went from a 22deg V light sportboat to a 24deg v offshore boat that weighs twice as much, no way is the fuel economy gonna be remotely close

Mine does ok as long as I stay off the boost. At WOT I can use that 155 gallons up in about 2 hours or less. If I run it at around 3500 rpm = 65 mph I can go for quite a while, I would say 8 hours or more of run time. I never really did the math or paid to much attention to it though. I do budget for a tank of fuel every other weekend in the the summer though (about $600 to fill the tank). I would think that the majority of the money I spend on the boat is gas but I expect that.

What kind of speeds are you running at WOT and have you thought about maybe getting a 5 blade to get some better speed at cruising rpms vs top speed?

On a run we do every year down on Lake Cumberland, approximately 92 miles round trip; our old single 454+.030 (carb) 24' Donzi burned 42 gallons. Our '02 28ZX with twin 350 mags on that same run burned 33 gallons and ran 12 mph faster (average). Just an example. I like playin with twins. good luck with whatever you do,
