The 03 for $99999 with no trailer is listed for $99999 for a reason. I have looked at this boat in person. The 01 on a trailer looks to be a much better buy, that is judging from the pics only, $170000 is a bit steep but I don't think you will get the 01 for $100000 |
What would you expect top end speed to be out of triple 500 EFI's? Is this a worthwile package or a dog? Not looking to run 90 but would like 85.
For those who have 47' model years 2000 - 03 is there anything that I should be aware of if I was to purchase one of these? Thanks for the help JB |
A friend had a 2000 w 500 efis. Would run 85.
And you could stand there a carry on a conversation NO problem while jammin. I think he had a motor that always ran rich. nobody could figure why before he sold. |
Ed Champion just sold a 02 47' with 500's and I think it would run around 82 GPS @ LOTO but I think he ran it pretty full with fuel
|
I have had mine up to 87 but 85 all day long.
|
Lake Cumberland are great people to work with, bought my last Beak from them, and everything was top notch all the way.

That's good to hear. We are in early discussion's of the 47 they have listed. I am somewhat concerned about the motors because they did tell me that they were rebuilt recently and have just under 300 hrs on them. |

Boat had 28 Bravo I props. We had 320 hours on the motors when it sold never an issue. The 2003 at Formula Boats of Missouri isn't a fair comparison. Guy from Canada went and looked at it and then came back and bought ours. It's priced right, but needs some work to be perfect. I've never seen this one for sale and have been watching the 47's for over a year. I like the red, seems heavy on the price to me too. |
Eddie, what did and what didn't you like about your 47'
Are you looking to buy another one Thanks, JB |

If so that is some good prop slip #'s, 5-6%.. I am around 13 - 15% slip on my 525's with 32 B1 |
storing and towing only cons

Are you looking to buy another one I pulled ours with a SRW 2500 GMC diesel turned up and didn't care for towing it. I’ve always towed boats/trailers and just think it was working the truck very hard. Steve (Ozark Devil) has a Manning trailer and doesn't think it tows any harder than his old 40 Outlaw. Never seemed to have an issue parking it in slips, you do have to watch the wind some, it’s a big kite. Only down side if you like to travel a bunch. We live on Lake of the Ozarks and my wife has a bad back, so it was great for us. She wants a cruiser and I don’t. It ran 85 GPS and has all the stuff you find a on cruiser. It was a great boat for us. I made an offer that was rejected on a 51 Quad step last night, Dan just doesn’t seem to want to get us Fountain guys converted as much as he says. |

I buy and sell it was the nicest boat I've owned to date. I would buy another 47. Not much not to like about the boat, ride, handling, comforts are all outstanding. Not much to complain about with the AC running doing 80 down the main channel at Lake of the Ozarks!

Eddie thanks for all the good info. I got a kick out of your wife comment.... mine is pushing me to do the same thing and I'm trying to convince her into a larger performance boat before we go to the cruiser route. |

Hey guys. Love our '99 47 Lightning with 525SC's but need to downsize to fit a lift on a house we bought in Florida. Check it out at www.upperchesapeakeyachtsales.com and I will consider a smaller Fountain, Formula or Velocity trade to 38'. Thanks

I know Randy at Lake Cumberland. He is a fantastic and serious guy to work with. In regards to you question about these boats...: A 2006 MY and onwards is a lot better build boat. I would seriouly considder one of these rather than the pre-2006 version. With this boat, you will have better handling, higher hullsides at the stern (nice out in the ocean) and a more modern stringer set up. The 47 is a veeery long boat, and they tend to shake and flex a little bit. The 2006 and newer 47s are much better there and is dead tight. It looks like Casey have a really clean boat for you and it will be cheaper in the long run to have a newer boat. The 500s have distributors, while the 525 have static ignition with eight ignition coils and will run smoother, and also SMART Craft system and Guardian Mode. In addition to that, the headers looks better and the 525s have a "cerpentine" style belt instead of several V-belts. Works alot better... etc. etc. Fountain 47s eat drives for breakfast when you race / poker run with them. A low hour boat will probably give you less standstill and sudden costs. The 2006 have new step location and runs much smoother. The 2003 Fountains are however build with more attention to detail and not so "in a hurry build".. I am sure that one is a really good one too, as it is sold by one of the worlds (previously) largest Fountain dealers. I wish you the very best with your Fountain purchase and hope that this info would be of some help. Post some pictures of your new boat when you get it!!! Erik :) |
