you could use the 572, but it would be wise to make it a closed cooling system motor.

I guess it would be cheaper just to go with the Whipple supercharger . End result will be around the same HP #'s as the 572 , but with less hassles .

All the Blue HP Merc engines are assembled by hand, and are Balanced and Blueprinted, and have better internal parts, ie- as in JE pistons in the 500 series Blue Engines. They are a special piston manufactured for Merc by JE. They also have better heads and bigger valves and better exhaust than the Black engines, along with a few other differences.

All the Black Merc engines are more or less a crate type engine. Not that thats bad, just not more of a custom precision engine as the Blue motors.

Ok so thats why they cost sooo much more , all high end internal parts and better heads . Ha and i thought it was just because of that magical blue paint they use .

So now I'm wondering again ... will my black motor hold together with the added hp from the whipple or will I be sacrificing reliability ?
In the long run , I'm wondering if I'm better off taking the 572 and having it redone with all the high end internals and specs for marine use . I would guess it could produce some impressive hp #s with the right parts . Building it up with proper tolerances for marine use would eliminate the need for the closed cooling system . Anyone with some technical know how on this subject ?
