Cabin Carpet questions

In the middle of getting new carpets made (cockpit & cabin) its get kind of confusion ordering this stuff, 16, 20, or 40oz ? I know the newer fountains likely have some pretty plush cabin carpet, (thats the look I'm after ) but I need to know what grade to order? I'm assuming 20oz is about mid grade & likely most popular,?? so I'm leaning towards 32 or 40, I will be ordering it from snapincarpet.com or http://www.corinthian-marine-carpet.com/

any thoughts on quantity? would a 8 x 20 roll do the cabin of a 42?

Great question. I am getting ready to re-do mine as well next year. This year I am getting some new cockpit carpet done and I am unsure if I want to get the 40 or a lesser plush version of carpet. I am probably going with the 40 for all but I have still not yet decided.

think I might go with this 32 oz (for the cabin)

40oz is made for the cockpit. Huge ribbed rubber backing. Not a glue down type. I would get a sample first.

I ordered the Aquamat cockpit carpet for my cruiser from Corithian last fall, made from my template I sent them.

Went with the Premium 40oz.cut loop. Love it! The Aquaback really keeps it laying down flat. I made my template with just a 1/8" clearance all around the perimeter to keep it in place. I wouldn't consider anything lighter myself. 40oz sounds like it's overly thick, but it's not. Very comfortable.

BTW, I also bought the mats from Snap In with the Baja and Formula Logos engraved. Exact same carpeting and backing.

Not as dark grey as the pics show. The grey Baja mat is more accurate.

No doubt on the cockpit carpet, its the glue down in the cabin that's got me stumped, I'm going to get some samples & go from there

Corthian told me they can not do the Fountain logo. They said it is trademark infringement which is BS. That is why I went with Snapincarpet. They also charge more for Sunbrella binding where at Snapincarpet it is same price.

about what did you pay? Maybe I will have to go trough them. I just found carthian and didnt have the hassle of buying a dang template than mailing it in, where carthian already had it.

No Fountain logo was a deal killer for me. Snapincarpet will shave in any logo you want for free. I have a 47' so mine was a little high. My carpet was over 60 sq.ft.

soldier4402 04-12-2012 09:52 AM

carthian wants 330 shipped for the same brand of carpet, snap in wants 5-600 logo is free if carved. So basically the logo is going to run me 150-200 bucks. Probably live with out the logo on there.

I just got the 40oz cockpit carpet for 580 from Snapin. Once it arives I will see how it looks. I did research the others and decided that snapin would be the best way to go even though they were a little more expensive. I firmly believe that you get what you pay for and an extra 100-200 was not that big of a deal to me anyhow.

soldier4402 04-12-2012 10:12 AM

true that. So far its the same carpet the premium cut pile 40oz, riveria red for both, they will bind the edges for free, just no logo. Now as far as craftsmanship thats anybody guess really dont have a lot of feedback on either. Well see what happens. My carpet needs it but I can also live with it, and for 600 washingtons I can find other ways to spend it on the boat. but let me know what you think.
