35 fountain info

Hey Guys

Thinking of getting into a 35..what rides better the single or Twin step set up??
I want to stay 100% stock so how do the 496HOs do in that boat??whats REAL speeds in a 35 with 496HOs single versus twin step??

How is the overall performance on the 35?

I want to get into a 2003 and newer so if anyone knows of a fair priced 35 please pm it to me..
Not looking to steal anything but dont really care what someone owes the bank either,,seems like prices are all over the place..

Thanks

Your going to pay a huge premium for a 35 Lightning VS a 35 executioner 2003 and up. If you haven't noticed that in your searches already...

By 35 fountain do you actually mean 32'? LOL sorry bad joke.

Hope you find a nice boat to replace the gem you just let go in all seriousness. :-)

What's your price range Tom?

I love my 2005 '35 but I do not have 496s(525s in mine). I have never ridden in or driven a single step so I can't compare the two hulls. I have no complaints about mine. Someone will better answer your questions soon I'm sure.

Im thinking real speed HO executioner will run right at 75. Some seem to think the drives are a little higher on newer EX's compared to older single step models. I looked pretty hard at 35s over the winter and ended up with a 38. Boats have been selling if they are clean and price on the bottom of the market. I would just say me ready to buy on the spot if the right one pops up!

35

I have owned all 3 straight bottom , single and twin step, All 3 were great boats and had their strong points. My 1990 straight bottom was a rough water crusher speed wise 2x600hp to push her 86, my 35' 00, single step 500 hp carbs 84 on gps and was a great ride and pretty nimble , my current boat is a 01' 35 twin step Hull number "1" for 01 86 on gps and the best all around boat we have owned great handling , nice midrange (500 hp fi) options are nice to have flush head shore power storable bimini fridge ect,

techman 04-16-2012 08:18 AM

Get the twin step. More modern hull, fast/efficient, perfectly balanced, run flat and a better layout on the interior. The 496 side by side twin step boats will do 80 +/-. The staggered twin steps are capable of higher top ends, but sacrifice low/midrange performance due to sky high x-dims and larger wheel setups from the factory.

The single step boats, in my opinion, ride bow high. They are not as easy to "fly" across the wave tops and in rougher conditions. They tend to land ass-end more when launched.

The flat bottom 35's are antiques at this point and not what you are looking for.

You know what a bad joke is, Active thunder period LOL There are more 35 Lightnings in some marinas alone then ALL 33 AT's ever made :lolhit:
In all seriousness, I wouldn't trade 3 AT's for one 35 Stag 600SCI 2007+ Fountain. :whistle:The twin step's on rails, they will run rough water (been on a twin step 35 through some rough lake Erie crap at 80+MPH never felt loose). +1 with what Techman said. Never ridden in an Executioner so I can't speak for them.

My buddy went from a 290 Powerquest to a single step 1995 35 Fountain. He has no regrets, has no problems running with the big dogs out on lake michigan. He was not able to play with them when he had the 290 PQ. His wife is much happier on the Fountain when the lake is rough.

I know my 38 Fever, oh wait, 35 Fever, has no trouble keeping up with my buddy's in their 38 Cigarettes when its snotty. And when its 2-3's, walking away is not a problem.

The 33AT is a great boat. However, not really a good selection of used ones, and if you find one they aren't cheap. Theres a couple old 10 meters and 35's down this way that would be happy to run that 33 AT on lake michigan in some 3-4's if you wanna have some fun.

THE 288 KID 04-16-2012 12:43 PM

There's actually no selection of used 33 a/t's (4 i/o's made total)

Its my job to give boatnt **** on here so again pardon the joke. I spend some time on a 42' lightening during the summer so its not like I don't like them.

3-4' waves?! Maybe I should bring my dads sea ray 200 if were gonna run little water! I warm up on **** like that! LOL

I'm sorry, I was referring to NOAA forecast for lake Michigan. I should have put it in fairy tail world. What I call 3-4's is what fairy tale boaters say is 6-7's. I love the guys that claim they run 80+ in 6 fter in a 32ft boat. Lol

Try and go run like that in lake Michigan 6fters at 80 plus. If you don't stuff or blow the bravos up, you will definitely have stains in your shorts. 41 apaches get air at 65mph in 3-4 ft NOAA forecast swells.

THE 288 KID 04-16-2012 01:10 PM

My boat won't even do 80!:party-smiley-004:

I had a single step 35 with big power, and the twin step is a much more efficient hull.
The twin step hull handles much better and will require less power to run at the same speed when comparing the two hulls. Both are great boats but if I were to choose again, I would go with a twin step hull.

Give Peter Roberts at Double R a call, I think he might have two or three 35 Lightning’s for sale.

Here’s a nice one.

35' Lightning

I just sold a 2002 35' Lightning. It seemed like I was always 8 MPH faster than the single step with the same power. I don't recommend the 35' if you wanna go faster than 100mph. It chine walks and gets squirrely.

Some would disagree with this comment. It all about set up.

Boat mags that have tested the 35 twin steps with staggered 525's have never said anything about chine walking @ speeds above 100, actually the opposite.

I experienced it and was told by the guys at Fountain at the time they didn't recommend anything over 100 in a 35' twin step for this exact reason.

2x496 35' step Fountain close to 80mph
