I could always feel a vibration in my feet when I was getting ready to brake while running down the river. It could be your upper or prop the lower you shouldn't hurt unless you have thrown a few blades on that shaft. You can spin the prop for a quick check on the shaft. Never broke the gears on the lowers just had to have them taken apart an cleaned out when you explode the upper.

BBlades is great and I had him lab bravo 4 bl w no problems., .But when you have 5 or more blades and are up this high, labbing leads to braking really quick.( I am going w stock props and no labbing myself.)

You can rent a set of Props from BBlades for like 45 bucks and you get I think 14 day's to try them.. Its a Great Deal !!!

This has been a very intresting read and I feel real fortunate not to have experienced the issues some of you have had. In 225+ hours never through a blade, broke a shaft or blew a drive.

Are you 1-2 inches above the bottom w prop centerline? Are you ruinning 5 and 6 blade props and do you have Bravo drives w 6-700 HP? :D

If so tell us your secrets !

525 boat, extension boxes, ran all the props you listed, 3/4 inch above the bottom with the prop shaft, boat runs high 90's, and you have the 32 pitch Herrings that I tested on the boat. Also won it's class at the LOTO Shootout the last 4 years.

Al? Thanks for the ray of hope ! You have (had) the same style xrs as mine ( 03 04 ) they must be better than the new ones. My drive will be done any day now so I can try those herins. I'm hopin 97. Chad

I would go with 1 inch, but every boat is a little different when you get to really dialing them in. I tried different spacers, props and changes to props to get the boat to where it was the best in my opinion. The people I know with real high x demensions all have had issues with props, shafts, and drives with Bravos. For normal cruising I ran a really good set of 4 blade Bravo 1 props so as to not load everything so hard. The boat still ran around 94 and the engines were real happy as they say. Chad good luck with Herrings.

ARB38, I think your right with the 4 blade to save your drives. The last year I had my boat I throw a blade in the middle Gulf during a run an another boater had a spare set of bravo's 30 4 blade put them on never thinking it would get on plane but to my surprise it was like a dragster off the line. Still ran in the upper 80's turned out to be a good run. We missed the lunch but caught up with everybody coming back got my helicopter shots a won second place and found out that you can run 4 blades with a 22 1/2" X Dim and have great throttle response.

mcprodesign 06-08-2012 09:08 AM

might have to try bravo 4 blade. I tried hydro p 5 x and had to turn 5000 rpm and head it into the wind to get off the plane off

I had a set of Hydo's 5 blade same problem it was unpredictable one time I could get on plane no problems the next it took about 1/4 mile of trying to get on plane the following week took it out and throw a blade

mcprodesign 06-10-2012 04:24 PM

just biting my nails here. the speedmaster lowers I bought . Not only had the fin bent on each, the one fin was. sectioned (piece spliced on the fin) about 4 inches across the bottom. Now. The starboard lower gears went. And all the **** from the gears ran through the upper and saturated the drive I just had rebuilt. Didn't even ger a tank of fuel through it.
I'm just hopin my lower case is usable.. My buddy is flyin in today and I may not have my boat ready for tomorow when he gets here to go testing !!!

Thats right borrow a set of 4 blades and try them you might be surprised it shocked the hell out of me. I didn't even want to waste my time trying them but sitting in the ocean an about 40 miles from the trailer everybody in the boat kept saying just try them. After that I carried a garbage set of 30's in the boat. The hydro's I had were 5 blade 31 by 15 1/2"

Chad, I have some stock XR lowers if you need something for spares. They have about 10 hours on them. They came on the 03 boat when it was new from the factory. Same condition as the props you got from me.

Good to know! Thanks AL. I have my stock ones here too. I was planning on using them for parts as well.. Turns out the stock ones I got with my boat were stock bravo lowers w XR shaftes turned to fit. :lolhit:. My drive guy has the upper drive all done for me at this point.. Just working on shimming the new gears in the lower of the sportmaster as we speak. I hope it gets together today !!!!!

mcprodesign 06-12-2012 07:10 PM

32 hering 6 bl don't work on my boat. a lot harder to plain and -1 mph on top. -2 ,-3 at cruising at same RPM as maximus. The herings are for sale :D
