Be forwarned of the chine walk around the mid 70s

Reggie 06-20-2012 05:08 PM

She'll run in the low to mid 80's but will be a handful, she'll chine walk, and kind of flutter in the air

Yep! I could calibrate my GPS to when it started chine walking.

Reggie Fountain 06-20-2012 08:48 PM

Mid 80s.

Stepped hull 29's with a 575 SCi ran 78 - 83 mph, so you should be in that range. My friend had a 91 27 Fever with a setup similar to US1's and his ran 81 on GPS without a lot of "excitement". My 96 stepped hull 27 Fever with a HP500 (slightly higher compression than stock :D) ran 76 gps, but it was a real handful at about 75 and you really had to pay attention to what it was doing, up to the point where you had to back out of it. Would use the max speed recall on the gps to see how fast it actually went ... was too busy driving to try to watch the gps. Is your's stepped or staight hull? (I think 1995 was first production year for them, but it may have been 94. Another friend has a 98 27 Fever with a HP500 and B&M 250 on top with ~6-8 psi boost and his can get pretty violent at ~78 mph. He has enough power though, that he can fool with his tabs somewhat and get a couple more mph before it chine walks too bad.

Reality. Mid 70s all day. 80 if you have fuel to waste and nobody in the boat to share the thrill

soldier4402 06-21-2012 06:57 AM

80, but personally thats to much power for that boat.

brbracing 06-21-2012 06:42 PM

chine walk

Any boat without a pad wil walk.....way cant u just drop the tabs a bit

Thats what I was saying in my post. You can fool with the tabs a little, but it scrubs some speed .... but you can make up for that with more horsepower. If you get the tabs down a little to far, you further unload the rear of the boat, shift the cg of the boat farther forward, and it can start to bow steer. If you get the cg too far forward, you will end up with the rear of the boat coming around the front of the boat and everyone will be swimming. Is your boat a stepped hull or straight hull. The straight hulls handle the horsepower better, from my experiences.

brbracing 06-21-2012 07:48 PM

chine

Its a stepped hull....i will index my k planes and drive...i will not drop the taabsbelow nuetral......also how bout a one inch shortie lu

brbracing 06-21-2012 07:52 PM

not really

Look at a allison...bullet....hydrostream....boat needs a flat surface to get up on

bob_t 06-21-2012 08:39 PM

95 would have probably had a low X dim (~17" or there-abouts), so you probably could benefit some with a shorter drive.

Carbon Footprint 06-21-2012 08:59 PM

My 97 27 stepped hull stock 502MPI with CMI exhaust runs 70 all day long on a 23 pitch prop at 5000rpm at 650' elevation and 102 degrees out. Adding 240HP will gain at least 10-12 mph!! Unless the non step version is that much slower, I would certainly think he will be high 70's to low 80's. There are several whippled 502's in 27's that are pushing mid to high 80's

brbracing 06-21-2012 09:44 PM

x dim

Does anyone with a newr 27 have a xdim measurment and im assuming it has to be a lefty lower

Griswald 06-22-2012 07:45 AM

I was told by Fountain that my '97 has an X of 17.25". I have recently installed a -3 lower and the bottom of the boat is now even with the top of the gear case

bob_t 06-22-2012 09:57 AM

Later/last 27 Fever X dimensions were 19" - 19.25". 19.25" seemed to have a little more prop slip. B1 drives are not "handed" ... you can spin them left or right, depending how you set your shift linkage. Bravo 1 props work good with those higher X's. Hydro Q-IV's ... not so good to not at all. Never tried the Hydro round ear props.

P5X is the ticket
