496 HO issues
Hi guys,
I have a 2008 Ex, that sounds a solid alarm after the bow is up in the air for several seconds. In other words, if I come off plane slow, the alarm will sound and go into guardian mode. I then have to wait a few minutes, then am able to take off normally. Replaced sea strainers, and hooked it up to a scan tool, which said " overheat manifold temp". What's strange, is the motor temps never get over 170. Any suggestions, as this is getting very frustrating? On another note, is there a sensor on your drive oil reservoirs that would sound the alarm? Thanks! |
Yes, there is a sensor in the drive resevoirs. Check those...

Thanks. What will sound the alarm? Too low, too high, or both?
|
Check your lube monitors for low drive oil.
Also, if you are coming off plane when the alarm sounds your engine temps are probably spiking temporarily. The alarm goes away after the temps come down. Mine do that once in a while. Your mechanical gauges may never indicate the high temp, but if you run a smart craft monitor you can see how quickly the temps come up when coming off plane after running for a distance. |

Also have you done a search? I remember someone else having an alarm on a 496 but don't remember what the culprit was... |
Thanks for the input, guys! I have some smart craft gauges on order, and will put them in once the come in.
