Fountain sea strainers
 

Anyone know the function of sea strainers that have two thru hull hoses?One is for intake raw water scoop and the other strainer opening goes out the side w/brass ball valve below the waterline. Both enter the strainer high on the side of the strainer.Should the seemingly extra thru hull be left open while running?The boat does have fresh water flush also. Thanks
