Default Took my 27 fever to the lake today with new prop

Took my fountain to the lake today to try my new bravo 1 24pitch prop and I'm running 60 mph @ about 4850-4900 rpm with a 502 mpi black motor
Had 3 people in the boat 465lbs between the three of us and 25 gallons of fuel @ 6.1lbs a gallon =152.5 lbs of fuel and a grand Total of =617.5lbs

The same boat people are getting 70 I'm 10mph away

Seems like it would have more but it does have bottom paint on it so it has some drag...any suggestions?

And I was told the prop was labbed...I used my fathers bravo 24p and my prop seems to get on plane better but I thought I would be a little faster than 60

How much does bottom paint slow you down? 2/3rds of the Bajas and formulas on craigslist here are bottom painted.

Bottom paint is rough and creates drag...more drag slower you go

I would thing the bottom paint would slow you down

It's the paint.. My friends straight bottm 27 with a stock 502 and stainless marine exhaust with about 4 years of paint only did 55/56 . I Striped the paint off and buffed it back to a shine and it did 68 all the time gps speeds. It's the paint. I also did a 353 fastech with 500 efi's did 68/70 stripped the paint and does 80 now...http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/f...t-removal.html that is a link to the thread on it

I would also prefer a shiny bottom over a painted one, although I know there are some ultra shin bottom paints that does not create drag.

I would go for a non labbed prop. Merc often cut off some of the blade are on the lapped props. With only one engine/propeller, you will need as much bow lift as possible on a V-bottom (to reduce the trim angle of the out drive). Try instead cupping the propeller more. Most prop shops can "lab finish" a prop. It actually means that they measure all blades and make them similar to each other and also balance it and thin out the blades etc. A prop that is been modified would usually give better performance, but make sure to do the right tinghs to it. I would guess a big ear four blade prop would work well on a 27 Fever.

Good luck

my 27 same motor with a hydromotive 4 blade get 69-70 no bottom paint. Like stated above lose the bottom paint and go from there.

My 2002 27 with 496HO with 26P cutting edge do 67-68 almost full of fuel and 2 persons...but never seen 70-71.
