29 fever, 575?
just curious guys, has anyone ever repowered 29 fever with a merc 575 sci? Also, what kind of numbers would you achieve? such as top speed, cruise speed.
Also, how scary would this boat be to drive? I would think 29 ft boat running in the 80's could be a handful. |
27 with 575ish hp will see 80-82mph. I wouldn't call it scary but the 27 can be a driver's boat.
Let the bashing begin |
I am all for it....because I love 575s! I would put chillers, cams, tune, pulleys, and then drive it...:evilb:
|
And I know some of the newer 29s had the 525 option which isnt too far off from the 575. But you don't get the whine, and you don't have the powerplant for more power if you ever want more in the future!

There was one for sale on the finger lakes 3 years ago. Nice boat!

Wow impressive! So what kind of maintenance do they require? I've read a little on them and it sounds like the blower needs the most, and it sounds like this is the weakest link. I know this is a loaded question, but how is reliability as far as amount of hours of use? What extra attention does the super charger require? I love my boat like everyone else, I'm always thinking about the next move. Either repower mine when my 500efi needs to be freshened, or sell and go with a twin factory 500 or 525 set up.

-Get rid of the head gaskets - ASAP! I don't care how many hours are on them. I swapped to a hydraulic roller cam and lifters. They came with a flat tappet cam from the factory, and there isn't as much zinc in the oils now, as when these were designed, so I have heard of the cams grinding lobes off. I know some also run special oil with high zinc levels and all is good. -Blowers are almost no maintenance after you have them checked/rebuilt. Change the fluid in them about every 20 or so hours and you are good. |
So what would make more sense, freshen my 500efi when it comes time and put a whipped on it, since it already has the roller cam? Or, is it worth the time and money spent to go to a 575?

seems like bolting a whipple on that 500efi is a no brainer to me!
