Stereo Amp Location

I'm planning on building a system in my boat in Feb/March and am curious where you are putting your amps to keep them cool and well ventilated so they don't shut off? Thanks in advance

I had mine bolted to the bulkhead facing the front v berth. I also mounted them 1/2" off the back using small diameter alum pipe as a spacer. They stayed plenty cool and never had any heat issues, there also out of site but still in open air. Downside is running enough cable gets expensive

i got both mine mounted down under the sink area and easy to get at and there not small amps either plus the wires are closer to the deck

IMO the only place you can mount them is in the cabin. Ive tried mounting them under the bench seat in the past but they get too hot and eventually shut down--same goes for the engine bay PLUS there is too much moisture in there. Spend the money on the extra cable and install them in the cabin.

I have mine mounted in the place of the mirror behind the sink keeps them cool and out of the way

I like that idea!

mines under the back seat with no problems in two years. Although in the cabin would be best. I tried that but figured out my ground wire was to small and didnt feel like trying to find another so I moved the amp. If you go from the cabin I believe it was like 12-14' so I would go with a 0 gauge ground wire.

I Have 3 JL slash amps behind my back seat in the engine compartment. I never had a proplem with heat.

heat should not be a problem as a lot amps since in boxes in the back trunks of cars in roasting heat. As long as you have a big enough area, under the seat would be fine as long as you have a cleared area. Water problems would be my greatest worry but like I said after 2 years no problems. I have been buying the remand amps off of Ebay for like 60-80 bucks, and they work great, and if they break oh well.

I'm seriously thinking about doing them where the mirror was/is. I've done the amp in the engine compartment and that never worked very well. Also, I use the storage under my seat for buoys and anchor all the time so that's not an option. Hmmmm, which way to go.....

The other thing you could do with mounting the amps on the mirror you could put fans on them and get a piece of the mirror and make a false panel so it hides the amps. I thought about doing this just havent yet.

Where did you get that fridge?

My amps are in the side compartments of the cockpit. never had an issue with heat of water, and I got stuck in the rain a few times this past season.

I am also considering building an amp deck that hides the wires and installing above the sink as well. Easy access and more bling to show off :D

amps

What size is your boat? On my 35 I put them in the bathroom, on my 29 they are under the bar, never had any issues with them shuting off.

Quebecfountain 11-21-2012 03:18 PM

need to remove all stage of plexiglass on the bar to win space where you put amps,

also cut little bit radio frame on top to fits amps on the top

and for sure need rectangle amplifier to fit in that place,
