Prop Locks

I have a set of Stern Driver props on my 32 Fever. I'm pretty sure these are factory Props. These props have Prop locks on them. The key would look like a deep dish socket with the shape of the nut that holds the prop on. My question is does anyone have an idea where I could find and buy this key.

Some types of these prop locks the buyer has to register w/ the manufacturer in order to get a new key if the original is lost. No two are alike and both of my outdrives have seperate keys. I would look for branding on the nut and call the manufacturer to see if they can help.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but does anyone have a relatively easy way to remove unwanted locks? I have used a Dremel tool and split with a chisel, but it isn't easy!

Are you saying that we can slim jim them?

Locks usually work best for the honest people a real thief could most likly get them off in 10 seconds.

Drives can be off faster than messing with the prop locks. Just a couple minutes.

That would be great if I weren't replaceing the props.

If it is the same as the one I am thinking of, my mechanic used to take another key for the same lock type, put it in and give it a descent smack with a hammer. He said it would pretty much fuse them together. This is easy in a marina when there are spare keys hanging around, but you could always buy a new one.

ive cut off 23 locks this year at the shop due to people buying boats and not knowing locks were on props or where keys were..air cutter with cut off wheel taking off outer sleeve, then air chisel to break off then air chiesel with sharpened pint to help spin off lock nut ,just dont hit threads good luck

I meant if someone wanted to take them.

Thanks proboat Wes. I'll give the air chisel a try. You're right on, just bought an old Velocity with Bravo drive and no prop key for lock.
