Question for y'all Fountain guys

Hey there, got a question for y'all.... Wife and I are in the market to move up to (?) and are looking at a few brands one being fountain of course, Donzi and id love an older Top Gun but financing the older stuff is tough and i dont want exotic power. Want something in the 35-38' range. I sold Baja for many years and have driven a ton of go-fasts but in looking at Fountains there are a ton of 35's and 42's and the price jump is substantial. However not as many 38's and the 38's that I see are damn near the same price as 42's... Is the 38 not as popular or why is the price higher on them? We have found a couple nice 35's we like but coming from a 29 Outlaw with HO's a 35 Fountain isn't much bigger.... Not wanting to be over 100k.... Thoughts? Not looking for brand bashing but just general info from y'all who own them.

Thanks,
D

I went 38' because it's faster than a 42', with same power, and came in a semi-stagger, easier to work on, vs a 35' in the years I was shopping. I personally wouldn't do the newer 38' because of the loss of cockpit space.

From what I have been told, the 38 was more of the stepchild of the fountain line and not many people developed 2-3 footitis and jumped straight from 35's to 42's which seemed like a logical explanation to me. I have been looking at 35's for a while now and possibly a 38, but I think the 42 will be a little big!

I think the 35 and 42 look much better in the water than the 38.

Have you had any bites on your 29 Outlaw?

Thanks for the replies...

Have had a few bites but of course this isn't the time of year to sell either and I think given Obamanomics and everything going on boat prices are set until Spring time. I am looking for anyone with a serious offer and it's theirs, not I'll buy it and you store it or bring it to me for $50K....love our 29, runs good for what it is and it does everything we want it to do but just want bigger. Wanted a 33 at the time we bought the 29 but the deal was so good on it I couldn't pass it up at the time. She's been good but time to move on up.

I'm biased, but I think the 38 is perfect. Faster than the larger 42 with the same power, better wave handling and more room than the 35. Plus I like the fact that there are not a lot of 38s out there. My 38 has the engines side by side and they are still easy to get to everything.

Went 42 Fountain/525's from 33 Outlaw/496's and never looked back. Awesome ride and handling boat. Staggered is trickier to dock at first but you learn it and then its fine.

38 is a nice boat. its a good compromise between the 35 being a bit small, and the 42 being a bit large for most.

But, the 42 is just a killer setup. They look great on the water. The extra 4ft shows. I'd love a stagger 42 with 6's.

What year is your 38? Any pics of it?
