05 Lightning speed question

Hey guys

I was just curious what kind of top speed you would get (GPS) out of a 2005 35 Lightning with non staggered 525's?

I am guessing "somewhere" in the 80's, but, I am not sure, so that's why I am here!

Thanks!
Michael

Low 90's

4bus 01-11-2013 08:35 AM

Low 90's on a cool day, 88-90 mph loaded on a typical summer day.

eddie 01-11-2013 08:50 AM

x3 low 90's

n20michael 01-11-2013 02:50 PM

Thanks Guys! I appreciate the info! Boat is a little faster than I thought (-:

drksuroo 01-13-2013 10:16 PM

90 for mine on factory test sheet. 88-89 for me.

bob_t 01-13-2013 10:58 PM

89 - 92 was the typical range for the side-by-side 525's. :)

How much work and money is involved to make one a legit 100mph boat? 27 Fountain if you dont mind me asking? what does your 1075 boat run?

-2 lowers, and prop work will most likely get you mid 90's every day. To break 100 with that set up you are going to need more HP. Whipple is the easiest option to add the hp you would need.

The other option strip the boat, reconfigure to 07 plus full stagger specs :D

Cool! Thanks 4 Bus!

I imagine your Boat must run close to 100? Sounds like an awesome ride!

Thanks.....but no. Has broke 90 a few times in stock form. I am upgrading the engines this winter but we are only talking another 5 mph maybe.

I have a friend with the same boat that runs 102 on cool days. He is semi stag, chilled, upped boost, -2 shorty, and 6 blade herrings.

The cheapest way to make one go 100, Bring it to Reggie, and only spend your money on things you need.

Without a doubt, the best deal on a 35 that will run 100 easily and reliably is the 07 at Legendary in Destin.

You will not have to trim the boat to the point of being loose to get up to and maintain 100 mph cruise, and the driveline will cause you no heartache.

A full staggered 35 with #6's is one of the ultimate boats to hurt some feelings and bruise some egos with.

I agree.....this is why I stay away when your boat is in motion :lolhit:

I thought "holy cow" was the only #6 full stag 35?

You are not kidding! I bet that thing is crazy with 700's in it, :eekdrop:

Mid 90's is still DAMN fast, well, at least for a "regular" guy like me, I know some of the stuff guys have on here is downright terrifying fast, but, I am sure you hold your own, and THEN some [-:

I have read several articles over the last little while from guys praising Reggie for helping them pick up A LOT of speed, the guy definately knows his way around a boat!

Thanks! I checked it out, KILLER boat, but, 162K is a chunk more than I can spend, although I am sure its worth every penny, and then some. I noticed they had a couple of 500/525 boats for sale as well, for a pretty decent price too, Thanks for the input! I had really been looking for a nice 35ZR, but, its looking more and more like my next boat will be a Fountain

Thanks again!
Michael

This was dealer converted by Legendary from a 525/XR boat to the 700/#6. Similar specs to mine, the way it is set up to run 115 leaves room for some more speed from that power.

Sounds like you are making some nice upgrades (too):bunnydance:.........

Just crazy! Hoping my next ride is a #6 fountain, for now I will just drool at yours.

Upgrades, more like fixing the pig rich stock 575's :D Gonna see how much HP those XR's can take! I was going to do the AZM kits as you suggested in Key West, but I am going full roller as well so doing a custom map. Why I decided to tear apart working engines and dump near $10k into them is beyond me....I need a new winter hobby :faint2:

Thanks for the kind words, mid 90's on a summer day may be a stretch, I expect low 90's with the upgrades in the heat. The only time my boat has broke 90 in stock form was cool fall days.

Do you boat in the thousand islands region? If so look me up this coming summer and I will take you for a ride if I am up there. Better yet get Kelly to take you for a 120 mph ride in "Holy Cow" :D

KWright 01-23-2013 08:32 PM

Hands down Holy Cow is the best 35 ever built! A lot of time went into that boat to make it run like it does.

Reggie Fountain 01-23-2013 08:53 PM

Kelly o boat ran 127 mph at the factory.

Your quite welcome! Yes, I have a small cottage on the South shore of Wolfe Island, between Clayton and Cape Vincent.

Do you ever come to the Alex Bay or 1000 Islands run? I would really, REALLY love a ride in either one of the boats! Let me know if your coming up this summer, My cottage isn't much, but, I have a boat launch, parking and dockage if you ever need it.

Hope water levels are up a little this year, was getting pretty shallow last year )-:

I will be up for both the June an August poker runs, Pirates week, and the 4th weekend. Possibly other weekends as well. We park on the town dock for the poker run weekends.

Shoot me a pm this summer and we can meet up.

drksuroo 01-24-2013 11:39 AM

Would it work if you converted a side by side 35 to a single #6 w/ big power? Just a thought.
