Will a b&m 250 fit in a 27 fever?
Wanna buy a B&M 250 for you 98 27 fever with an hp 500 carb motor. I just wanna make sure that it will fit behind the back seat and won't hit the engine hatch. Does anyone have one on their boat. Any info would be great don't want buy one and have to do any cutting. Thanks

1 1150 domintaor = no cutting. 2 carbs or an initercooler = cutting. It had a small clearence cut behind the seat but not all the way through into the cabin. Mine was a 1992.

This may be a dumb question but can you still run captains choice.

My old '94 27. Just a little pulley clearancing, not all way thru. No hatch mod needed.
Had some motor work done by a machine shop owner that had a newer one, 97ish?????? and he lined the hatch opening edges with some AL sq bar stock to relocate the hatch higher to keep from hitting the air breather. The newer boats have higher x dim than the non stepped (pre 95) 27's, thus higher motor mounting. |

This might help you to figure out if you have enough clearance to the hatch (page 12).

One of my friends has a 98 27 Fever (HP500) with a 250 B&M on top and it fits just fine. He runs a 28P LH B1 prop, 1.50 B1 drive (not XR or XZ). I think he has only blew 1 or 2 drives in the past 10 years. Boat runs 78 mph on gps any day (and remains stable). Biggest problem in his boat is chine walk ... it gets really bad. He can run faster (he is not maxed on RPM) but the hull starts jumping what seems like a couple of feet side to side and has to back out out of it. I'm not sure what "top speed" he has achieved. Another friend had an 509 cid HP500 copy in a 91 non-step 27 with a 250 B&M, also. That boat ran right at 80 mph with 8-9 lb boost. He was running a 1.36 ratio drive and a 23P (i think) Rev 4 prop. Never had any drive issues in 10+ years. He tried a Hydro QIV prop but it lifted the stern too much (it was very noticable) and the boat porpoised at top end - didn't do that with any other props we tried, and we tried a bunch :D

Mine used to chine walk around 70mph with Mach sterndriver prop 14X24 (4blade). Currently running a P5X and have not experianced any chine walking with this prop, only porposing in calm water above 70mph. Will try a -2 lower this summer.
