Is everything so right in the world that this is the main focus of all of your lives? Heres an idea.... Go boating. If you don't live where u can right now, go on vacation. Relax. I took a position about paying vs non paying members in the swap shop....thinking the extra fifty on price would get more supporting members. So while trying to promote my home, I offended what I considered then, and now, friends. To regain that, I had to apologize for being ignorant. After reading this entire thing, I say some apologies all around are due. Unless you are above humility......and then all is lost.... |

You know whats cool? A old CIG with 900's and SSM V's that runs 90. One that's been redone, all rotted wood replaced, all stress cracks repaired, awful paint job that's been sanded off and redone. Removing and replacing all the dead weight hollow bulkheads in the cabin that aren't even attached to the stringer structure.
You know whats not cool? A old Cig with 450's and TRS that runs 60mph. A old cig with a rotted transom and stringers, a paint job that looks like a kindergartner high on skittles and juice boxes designed it. Would I own a Cigarette, absolutely. But, the boat has to perform, not the name. Because at the end of the day, there is nothing superior construction wise on a 80's or early 90's cigarette. Take any of those old hulls, put some real power in it, and run 80, 90, 100mph in big water. See how they hold up. Things hold up a lot better at the 60mph then they do at 90. That's any boat manufacturer for that matter. But, I don't think there is any manufacturer out there, who has more boats on the water running 90+, than Fountain. Period! Whether its a old 10 meter, or a newer 42 lightning. Did Fountain close up shop? Yup. How many other go fast boat companies had one commander in chief, for 30 years? How many of these owners have spent so much money in design, development, racing, and sponsorship? Many of the old cig owners resort to "I don't care how fast it goes, It rides good in rough water''. Well, lets get real. Its not 1990 anymore, and 64mph isn't gonna cut it. Not exactly a world class #1 offshore boat when a guy passes you with a Baja 272 open bow with a 496HO in a poker run. Only people who have never run a Fountain in big water, think Fountains dont run well in big water. |

Out of 249 post on this thread, I've learned two things.
1. Reggie did not sell his boat. 2. Cougars do exists in northern lower Michigan. |
