Gel coat Cracking and Stringer Loose, What to do?
Anyone know what this could be attributed to? Its inside the front compartment under the bed. Its only cracked on the left side and the gel coat is spider cracking around the external area as well. How serious is it and how should I fix it?

Just curious but is your boat powered by a 496 with raylar kit? If it is I know original owner and had problems when boat was new also.
|
way too new of a 29 to be having those issues, I would bet you are talking about the same boat here ^
|
Yeah, as matter a fact it is... What can you tell me about it? I got a pretty good deal on the whole boat because of it...
Thanks |

Now i'm confused... I'm a newbie around here. Who's the OP? I just bought this boat this spring knowing I'd have some work to do with it... FYI, I have no other screen names.

I did join back in 06 but I have never been an active member and this has always been my screen name. I think this is the 4th post i've ever made here. Anyways, back to the main topic; I need to figure out the history or issues with this hull. It sounds like some of you could offer some insight. Any info would be helpful!
Thanks! |
Yes I know boat. I did the Raylar kit. My good friend bought the boat new. It was sent back to Fountain to have gel redone when it was a year old! The stringer was not loose but gel was cracking all over. On the way back from fountain in the winter months the driver hired by fountain lost cock pit cover and distroyed the interior. Fountain replaced the interior. Overall the next few years he owned it was a good boat. How many hours on boat now? I spent alot of time trying to get boat tuned in. We did drop drive hieght 1 inch because we could not get prop slip below 25%. He bought the boat in 03 and traded in 06. Name on side of boat was options II. Wht/red/blk colors?

just a thought for the op,you may want to contact one of the mods because i think they frown on having more than one screene name and it appears you do.good catch flyin bryan.

Yes, thats the boat! 273 Hours as it sits now. Its just starting to crack a little bit on the exterior. I don't think its anything i'm going to lose any sleep over. Can you tell me what is in the raylar kit besides the obvious intake manifold?
|
I was wondering why the interior seemed new. Also, is there anything else I should be aware of? In regards to the the boat and the engine kit etc?
|
The Raylar kit is a BK 103. It has alum heads, roller cam, roller rockers, intake and other misc parts to bolt on merc 496s. Makes 525hp. If I remeber there where about 100 hours on motor when we installed kit. I did port the exhaust manifolds. The boat gained about 10 mph with kit. Was a slow planning boat but after that ran well. The boat was taken care of well always garaged and maintained. I called my buddy and he said dealer redid gel once and did not hold then it was sent to fountain and they redid under warrenty and traded it shortly after that. Other than gel cracks and interior accident is was a good boat. Was under powered with stock 496 from factory. Fountain claimed 70 mph on there factory test sheet but we could not get near that stock. 65mph was about the most we seen.

So I just purchased a 29 with the same crack problems underneath the sleeping birth in the compartments. What did you find out? Is that a serious issue? Did you end up fixing it??
|
Better charge up your credit card.
|
Get it fixed right if you see cracks on the outside of the hull we delaminated a 29 that had this issue.
