Spark Plug Wires help
I am looking for new spark plug wires for my 2003 496 mag ho motors..does anyone have a AC Delco part number? Merc wants 500.00 for each set.....
|
Good luck i went thru this last year on my searay unlike in a car the wires are routed around the exhaust manifolds so ones from a car or truck will not work they are short
only thing i would think of is buy universal wire set and make them to the length you need |

I think the aftermarket can solve your problem.............for example MSD
|
MSD's from Teague are under $100.

I just ordered part number 32079 from MSD. I called and talked to the tech dept and that is the plug wire that they reccomend for my application. I will have to put the end on my self and cut them to length which is no big deal I have done them in the past before. They cost $ 137.95/ set from Summit Racing.
Thanks everyone for the help. It still just blows my mind to think that Merc tries to get $500 for a set of wires that are probably not half as good as the MSD wires |
Good info here; thanks. Please be sure to report back on how they perform once installed.

Just wnet through this a couple of days ago. The late 90s Corvette set will fit. Mine are BWD supermags. Part number is CH869. One of the short ones has a straight boot, and is kind of a PITA to get on, but the rest will work.

Late 90s? As in a 1997-1999 Corvette C5 with the LS1 engine? |

I'd be very interested to hear if any of these other kits like the two posted above and the MSD custom option provide any stereo feedback. Using the LS1 GM kit probably would not.

I got the MSD 31489 wires from Teague for my 502s. About $90 a set.
|
Not to be a jerk but I am aware that there are alternatives out there for 502 and 454 motors but the EFI 496 mag ho motors are a whole different story I did a lot of homework on this and the best solution I could come up with is the MSD wires.
As far as stereo feedback I did ask about that and they said that it should not be a issue at all. Only time will tell. |
I remember cutting and installing Accell wires (big fancy 8.8mm yellow ones) for my Trans Am, in a military base parking lot some 20 years ago. I had a fancy stereo (for the day) at that time as well, and I had a ton of feedback. It's probably much different nowadays with electronic ignitions; but the memory still remains.

I haven't been keeping up with the general forums, but Raylar used to have lots of sets of the 496 plug wires that were "take-offs" from the packages he made. Could probably search on here to see if he is still around. I think he was somewhere under $100 for a brand new set of Merc wires for the 496s'.

The plug wires that I ordered from Summit Racing worked perfectly.!! Way cheaper than Mercs and they all fit no problem. I had to cut all of them down and I used the 90 degree boots instead of the long straight boots. Big money saver!!

I have the yellow Accel wires and have no radio feed back at all, 502 With MSD box!
|
I run the MSDs on mine, no problems to report. They are a great company run their stuff for years on the race vehicles
