I'd be interested in your feedback on the performance/handling differences between the 35 and the 38. |
Re: Which Fountain do you own?
Well, I dont' have much seat time in it right now, but from the times that I have gone out the boat seems to be much more stable. I really liked to air the 35 out, and had a great time doing it, but it kind of freaked my wife out. I'm going faster thru snottier water then I did with the 35 and my wife seems much more comfortable than she did going slower in the 35. It takes maybe a second or so longer to jump on plane, but once up it seems like a more solid boat, althouth slightly less nimble, but not by much. Part of the reason might be that we are currently running a pair of Sportmaster lowers. The skeg on them is really long, and that might actaully make the boat feel stuck in the water. I'm anxious to try some other lowers. I've heard sportmasters can cost you as much as 3 mph over regular xr lowers. I've seen 83 so far with 525's so I'm hoping that a pair of IMCO shorties that I'm buying might pick it up a bit.
To me, the big bonus in the 38 fever is the cockpit. We've had six people in the boat and it almost seems less crowded than the 35 did with four. The space between the bolsters just makes it a much more comfortable boat. I'll keep you posted as we try different props and drives. |
