lost hydraulic steering intermittenty

Ok so I was docking at a restaurant sunday and it was breezy and I had the wind working against me of course. As I was getting close to the dock I was trying to turn my wheel hard left and it would not turn at all, I was in reverse. So in order to not lose control of the boat I put it back in forward which it really didn't wanna do either and pulled back out of the slip. I regrouped pulled back into slip just fine.... got back to the boat yard and this happend to me again. Seems like when the wheel is cut hard in either direction shifting is near impossible and reverse is eliminating steering completely? My last boat had only power steering so im wondering if this is a new animal to me and im missing something? Am I cutting the wheel a little to much because im used to power and not hydraulic? Any info is appreciated.

I've never had full hydraulic so not sure what the issue is but "power" steering is hydraulic. Now you just have hydraulic to the helm instead of a cable running back. Both are hydraulic and shouldn't affect shifting.

The only time that happened to me is when I installed my system. make sure the fluid is topped off, you could be running out when the cylinder i all the way extended. Does your system have an overflow tank? After I added one to my system it cured my problems.

I will turn the wheel and keep an eye on the reservoir today. The shifting is honestly what has me more nervouse.
