fountain 35 or 38
looking to buy a 35 or 38 with no motors or drives. I have 2 built 502's with almost no hours and 2 bravo drives. am leaning toward the 35 because of the power I have available, maybe I have enough for a 38? motors are 30 hours since new, eagle cranks, J E pistons, merlin fully ported heads, merlin intakes and Nickerson 850 carbs. gill offshore exhaust. trailer is not really necessary. looking for a somewhat clean hull and interior.

35 will be faster. 38 will ride better. Prolly only a few mph different.

I cant believe there are no hulls available out there. if I was not looking they would be everywhere

They are out there. One in the classifieds. 38 I think, cobra has it if I'm not mistaken. Some guys offering 42s on here. They are there just be patient

I can probably power the 38, I don't need to set any speed records and my motors are in the 550 hp range. would be open to a 35 it all comes down to the right deal. I boat on lake Ontario, St Lawrence river, and even make a trip or 2 to toms river area NJ each season so I am on bigger water for the most part

Keep in mind the 38 fever is a different animal than a 38 lightning and most 35s. You will get much better performance out of a 2000+ 38 lightning with that power. If you end up in the 99 and under vintage I would lean towards the 35.
My guess for speed with that power 38 fever - low to mid 70s 38 lighting twin step high 70s 35 straight bottom high 70s -80 35 single step low 80s |
thanks for your info, I would be looking for an older 35 or 38. in the 90 - 99 years, I would love to go newer but have to stay with what I can afford to buy cash. besides using my power and drives and if I have to do some other work to keep cost in check its not a problem, wont be the first time. I have a lot more determination than $$$$

here is a 38 lightning with a fever top . Meaning you get the speed of the lightning bottom with a fever cockpit. ( a lot wider) the only downside to the cockpit is no walk around to the bow. But this boat has been for sal e for ever. I bet you could buy it right and have the biiggest lightning cockpit around :D |
