fountain props
Ok I know its probably been beat to death but I am new to fountains and was looking the other day. Are all Reggies single engine boats left handed props? lol I know I should've paid more attention when I bought the thing but im so used to everything being right handed. what pitch you other 27 owners running?
They handle better turning in
He's talking about a single engine, there is no in.
exactly it drives fine and everything is hooked up exactly how it came out of the boat just not used to it I guess. I figured there would be a little more input esp on what prop everyone uses .... guess not.
Prop info will be all over the board depending on set ups. If you have a left hand prop then i would assume you have a bravo1 outdrive and someone came across a deal on a left hand prop and adjusted it at the shifter to make it work. What is your goal with this post?
I think his goal is to find out what way guys with 27 fountains spin there props.
If I'm not mistaken most single engine fountains came from factory left handed.
Yes left hand I had a 1998 27' with a 502 I think it ran right at 70MPH with a 23pitch Hydromotive
Same as mine. The Bravo one seems to be a better prop all around for me though. Lost some on the top end, but overall driveability was better. We run pretty heavy usually, 4 of 5 people and full fuel and gear.
thanks guys that's exactly what I was trying to find out if most were left handed or not cause it all appeared to be factory correct and hooked up right. it didn't looked rigged up or anything so was trying to find out. now if I can get the other issue I have figured out im good lol.
what issue is that?
496 mag ho, bravo X, 1.65 gears, 30P Bravo 4 Blade. 72MPH on a good day @5100RPM. Cool dry, low fuel, light chop, and one person.
Now my next question for 27 owners is what trim and tab setting are you using most often. I'm still getting used to this thing and it feels like it wants more drive trim up but it seems to porpoise without any tabs which to me defeats the purpose. Like I said first fountain and still experimenting with settings. Just never really had to use the tabs etc with the formulas and scarabs I'm used to.
Cruising: Drive 3.5-4, tabs 2.5-3
Cool deal that's kinda what I was feeling in the boat as well yesterday.
Not sure how many owners our 27 had prior to us, but it had a RH 22 Bravo I on it when we got it. I later replaced with a 24p Bravo I, and the boat really liked it. (502 Mag MPI).
Since you are new to Fountain, and assuming performance / stepped boats, you should watch the Reggie how-to video on youtube. If nothing else, listening to his accent is worth the time! |
not new to performance boats at all just fountains. I spent tons of hours testing the hawk on some formulas for merc and the fountain feels way different even by those standards lol. drove a few talons, scarabs, baja etc for them as well and its just a different feel. I just like to do a little research and ask a few questions and learn a little before I put me and or my boat/any passengers in a bad situation is all. saw the video as well a long time ago and yes its worth a watch even for the accent lol.
3 on tabs is neutral 3.5-3.75 neutral on drive
cruising in rough water 3.5-4 on tabs 3.5-3.75 on drive cruising on smooth water 3 on tabs 4 on drive WOT speed run start out at 3 on tabs trim drive to 4.25-4.5 as speed builds then lift tabs till you feel the nose rise and get light 2.5 or so depending on water conditions the boat will let you know if you need to lower tabs back to 3 |
I know not a Fountain but for what its worth my first boat, a 21' Evinrude Rogue boat (no misprint) had a V-6 engine with OMC outdrive Left Hand prop.
To all reading, I have a left hand mercury factory labed 28 4 blade
If anyone needs I lost a right hand prop years ago one day & have always had this left one sitting around .....always Figured it would be good for guys with single fountains Seeing this tread reminded me..... Pm if more interest. |
I'm not sure what kind of hp you are dealing with but I'm more than stock. 28 LH 5 blade hydro motive. Good all around prop, especially midrange. I could be wrong but I think the newer 27s are designed to run RH props.
I keep my tabs at 3 majority of the time. I adjust accordingly to conditions and speed. |
went to the 24 pitch bravo four blade and picked up some mph and rpm running 64.3 on gps. the boat was speced with a 23p mirage and 5050rpm at 66 mph so im close to stock. gonna add a lil more power this fall and see if I can get in the 70s pretty easy.
I have 29 fever with 28p 4 blade prop, run about 77mph with a full tank of fuel and 3ppl. Looking to hit low 80's. Any advice on props or do I need more horsepower first?
what year is yours? step or non step?
97 stepped hull
yeah youre gonna swing more prop than mine
Well I'm kinda wondering what I can do to get a couple mph more. I have the hp500 motor with weiand blower at 4psi. M buddies aerotech challenger pulls away a little bit at top end? Boat will only spin about 4950 Rpm's. Wondering if I went down a little bit to maybe a 27p if I could pick up some Rpm and speed? I know nothing about props? Just looking for more speed, what advantage is a 3 blade prop?
