Engine compartment lights

Has anyone replaced the cheap plastic lights in the engine compartment? Mine have both broken off and are hanging by the wires, looks like crap.

Barry, I saw some cool new LED lights at West Marine. I think they had white, red and blue. They are a little more expensive but LED's are supposed to last forever.

Check em out! Eric

Eric, I'll check them out. Any nibbbles on the boat yet? How's the business venture going, do you have a date for going to Texas? Make sure you keep in touch. Hope we can get together before you head out.

I replaced my lights. Fountain sent them to me free. They use a different light with a much better base now (no little tabs to break off).
Try calling Fountain, it may save you a few buck. by the way, my boat was NOT under warrenty...still got the lights free. Good luck

Barry, No nibbles on the boat yet.

Kinda thinking about Solomons Labor Day weekend. Do you have any plans yet?

I don't have a date for moving yet. Have a lot to do at the house so I can make some$ when I sell it.

talk soon, Eric

Cheap plastic lights? No not cheap. I had to replace one the other day and it was $54.99 from West Marine. What a rip off. Its a Guest model #412. I would try to find something different if you need to replace both.

I bought 2 of the Guest 412's from boatfix.com for not much more than you paid for 1 at West - boatfix had the best price I could find. When I went looking for them I was suprised how expensive they were, too. Fountain changed their lights to a different (and less expensive) light. The new ones from Fountain are only about $35 each according to our local dealer. The old style (Guest 412's) were about double that from Fountain. I added a wide white ty-rap around the two tabs to help support the light and always make sure that the lights tucked in and are pointed down, when not in use. Because of the angle that the lights are mounted relative to the tabs (the way the bases are clocked), the tabs really take a beating if the lights are pointing straight out when they get shock loads from the boat bouncing around - a lot of force applied to the tabs due to the weight of the head being so far from the support. ;)

SeaDated - Who did you talk to at Fountain? One of mine is broken too (no warranty either).

I spoke with Jeff Harris. He sent the new style lights out overnight and I didn't even pay postage. I have had several other item come up and he responed the same each time. It's because of that kind of "after the sale/warranty" support that I'm looking to upgrade and it will be another Fountain.

Good luck

SeaDated,
It used to be that way. The only person I could talk to at Fountain was Gail. She said there was a new light available that I could PURCHASE through Fountain.
