Questions about 2002 Lighting 42
 

Hello everyone, I'm looking at a 42 Lighting with twin 800hp motors, the owner said it runs 95. I thought that was a little low, coming from my 35 with a total of 900hp and runs 80 I really thought the 42 would do better. I've heard something about the early 2000's Fountain had large steps and it made them a little funny to drive. Has anyone heard the same thing or is it BS? My goal is to buy/build a 42 that runs 100-110mph. How much power does it take to get that done?

The big step boats are said to be good up to 130mph. (At least that's what old man Reggie told me) MPH seems a bit low but could be in the drives and props..
No comparison with the 35 and 42.

What drives?

I don't think that is completely out of line, maybe he is giving you a real every summer day number, unlike most. My 38 big step lightning runs about 96 in the summer heat on 700hp.

If you really want to take a 42 to the next level is all about raising the x. The 700sci #6 boats run over 100 using surface drives. Many big hp bravo boats are also break triple digits with shorty lowers and 5,6 and even 7 blade props....however they eat drives like candy.

95 every day without wrenching if a GREAT number on a 42 ft boat

The boat has B-max uppers and IMCO lowers 4 blade Bravo props I don't know the pitch. I'm guess there could be some MPH to gain with a prop change but I really don't think it's going to give me the 5mph I want. I agree a honest 95mph with out working on it all the time would be nice but I can't stop there. Thanks for the input

95 is not too far off with that set up. With some dialing in, it may run close to 100. But if I were you, I'd take a look at this 42. http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...o53189-en.html. All the work has been done, it already runs well over 110mph, and is probably the nicest 42 I've seen. The owner's willing to take a partial trade for a smaller boat.

If this one had been around when I was shopping, I might not have bought my 47.. But I have to agree with 4bus.. the best way to a 100+ 42 is with 700sci's and #6's.

I have a forty two I dont believe its funny to run at all so with that said its BS
