fountain 27
Im looking at purchasing a late 90s fever 27. Are there any "common" problem areas or anything in particular I should look out for when shopping around?
I just missed a 97 with 450 hrs and a perfect interior for $18,999 and now im seeing people asking high 30s for them?? Which end of the price range in more realistic? |
I would guess depending on condition anywhere in there is right. Nada is not the end all be all but a good starting point. Also biggest issue with anyboat the has wood in it is moisture. All makes and models are susceptible. A survey by a reputable guy with an operational moisture meter is a good idea. Again they are not perfect but it can certainly help. The other thing to consider from what I've read is the 29 is actually as fast or faster with same power. Don't rule them out in your search. I'm sure others will chime in with more.

For what it's worth, I bought my 04' 27 Fever w/ 235 hours on the clock in March of this year for 38K. Aluminum trailer included.
|
I sold an 02 this may for 35.000 800 hours aluminum trailer included. For reference.
|
And I sold a 2000 with about 380 hours 2 years ago for about $36k.
|
I sold my '97 in March this yr for $24k. Fresh 502 w/ procharger and Myco. The guys asking $30s are still sitting on them. As mentioned, check all the stringers in the engine bay as well as the berth. If anything doesn't sound right. RUN!

Griswald,Thats what I was thinking

I'm with ICULookin, consider a 29' if it's in your price range, faster, better ride and resale.
|
29's go for 30k all day
|
I picked up my 27' early this spring for $22,000 but it had some interior that needed attending to and a few other misc things. Good deal if you ask me because that was the only one available at LOTO during that time. Don't see many for sale in my area.
I like the boat but be ready for very little cargo room. I do 4 people and a cooler and that pretty much maxes it out as far as comfort. Not sure if the 29' has any more cockpit area or if its just a few feet longer. Don't get me wrong love the boat but be warned they are smaller cockpit area than most I think. |
29 fevers have more cockpit room then the 32's.

the main thing i would be looking for is like icu has stated . but anything with 300 hrs and above you start thinking about rebuild things .. and theese things are not cheap .. anybody sees boat they double the bill lol . id hunt for something that someone already spent the time n money reduing .. let them take the loss .. although its adouble edged knife . many have thing rebuilt . but dont want to spend .so many shortcuts are taken .. thus a rebuild ends up needing another .. a little interior work that makes the boat look less valuable that has a repitable engine rebuild . might be a great score .. many buy on vissual , my old 27 for instance needed new bench seat .. so i did all the interir from rear seat back .. cost me 900 bucks and looked like it came off the fountain line .. im sure it would have cost me deer to have sold it looking trashy . way more than the repair ...

300 hours needs a rebuild? See previous post sold with 800 hours and ran as fast as new. I bought it new. Far as I know its still running.
|
Only motors that need rebuilt at 300hrs are the hp500 and high hp motors. A stock 502 will go double the hours. It is a double edged sword, bought my boat and the motor was rebuilt 30hrs ago. Pulled it apart this winter and somebody just threw a rebuild together.
|
Iwill be selling my 98 27' fever with stock 502 mpi this summer look me up if your still in the market.
|
mines a early 90s non step and will be for sale shortly with a fresh engine and interior on an aluminum trailer pretty reasonable for whats in it.

If it checks out not a bad deal. Does need some TLC. If I was looking for a 29 I would be all over this |
If your wanting a boat to enjoy and take out with family and friends that is not a boat you want.
