What years did Fountain change the bottom on the 42?
 
I was haveing this discution with my brother a fountain owner about what years did fountain change the bottoms on the 42. And what are the speed differance between the 99 with 500 carbs and a 2000 with 500 efi,s .

Basically 95-97 was small step. 98-99 was large step. 2000-04 I believe was the next generation of steps and if I'm not mistaking 05 was the final bottom. The latest bottom wasn't necessarily faster I think but handled the excess speeds the best. Not much of a speed difference between 98-99 and the 2000 up I don't think either. The 2000 supposedly just handled better.

That is correct. There is a great summary by Randy Sjogren somewhere on here detailing the bottom differences and performances. '05 is the last or most current bottom out of the original Fountain factory while still run by Reggie. Later bottoms were from the "new" Fountain, owned by a venture capital conglomerate. The steps for '05 were made slightly smaller than the year before and the pad changed to make the boat more stable at high speeds with big power.

My 2001 was a big step boat. Not to say it was built in 2001 though...
