Trim
What's the most you guys feel comfortable trimming out without damaging the drives. It's a 35 lightning with hp 500's/ bravo 1's. Between 4 and 5 I picked up 4 mph but didn't feel comfortable going any further...
|
You have to trim it out to get the rpm's at a maximum. Now you can't trim it so far that it exceed the trim limiter - you would need to use the trailer button for that- unless something isn't adjusted correctly.

Or if it has hp transom assemblies and no limit switches or electric trim gauge. Typically 7 is extreme, and really if the drive height, props, etc are setup right 4-5 is as high as you need. If your boat requires more trim than that it's time to look into the setup.

On my 32 there is no "trailer" button. I went above 5 before but it didn't give anymore speed.
Most fountains 3 is neutral. |
Simple..... figure out the max trim distance for your setup, where the trim limit would be if it existed, trim the drive to that point and mark it on your indicator, then dont go past that.....

From another thread. |
I don't have "trailer" trim. I could put them out as far as they go if I wanted. If I'm not going to pick up anymore rpm's past 5 I'm ok with that just seems the boat should have more. I'm spinning 47-4800 now at 5 with tabs all the way up. My sonics liked a little bit of tab but the fountain seems to hate any drag. Running 76.2 gps. I haven't let the tanks get much below 3/4 yet either. I'm sure I could pick up a couple hundred running them down but I like full tanks when I go out. Also got 28p stock bravo blades which I'm told is the right set up. I only asked because I'm used to having the idiot line of where not to trim out past. I'd rather be at 76 than at than shop doing rebuilds. Thanks for the help guys

Do the measurement as described above. Mark a line across your indicators with a Sharpie or tape.
That's your 'do not cross' point. Also, while you are at it. Mark neutral on your drives and tabs. Last, don't the Fountains all come with a 'performance report' when they were new? Does anyone have one from a similar vintage boat that can post their stats from so the OP can perhaps mimic those settings? |
Maybe I missing something but I don't have the "trailer up" positioning so where to base measurement? So 21.75 from full in then mark on indicators I'm assuming? And out of curiosity, yes she's a little older, but what are the age limits to be considered "vintage"?

You can also try to email fountain with the hin. They should be able to dig up your performance report.
