Fever 27

I am currently looking to by a 1991 Fountain 27 but I want to know if you guys think it will be too much for my truck.
I know the boat is 4800lbs in the specs but I think its Dry Hull only, with no motor, no gas, no equipement. The boat is on a Myco tandem trailer.

My truck is a Chevy Trailblazer SS (stock + B&M aftermarket oil cooler for the transmission) and the truck is rated at 6800lbs towing capacity. Do you think the boat/trailer/everything will be too much for my truck ?

The boat ramp is only at 15-20min from where I live.

Way too much. Your looking at 7500+ with fuel, trailer, etc. I pulled my 27 with a 1500 Silverado for a while and it was a load. I have a 2500 diesel now.

I pull mine with a f150 fx4 with a 6.2 gas and it pulls it easily, have a ram cummins and rarely use it to pull the boat. for a 20 minute drive i think you will be fine, just dont go to fast or the tail might wag the dog

I finally bought the boat !

The truck is towing well even if its look small in the front of that. I probably wont go on the highway with this setup...but the local boat ramp is 10-15 minutes from my home and I use only little streets to go there.

Sydwayz 09-08-2015 11:08 AM

I can't endorse that setup.

But if you are going to continue to use it; dump that Surge Brake Coupler, and go with Electric over Hydraulic. You will thank me one day.
BTW, the majority of accidents occur on 'small streets'. Toddlers chasing a ball, Grandma pulling out in her Delta 88, tween cross street on his bike... etc. etc.

You know what a Delta 88 is/was?

Wow am impressed.

I second this. I have a 2500 diesel and a 1500 suburban. Pulled my 27 two trips to the lake with the suburban and won't b doing it again. Like sydwayz says it's not how careful u drive but the da's that pull out in front, quick red light, etc that will get you. I don't care how good ur brakes and trailer brakes are.

that looks like a nice trailblazer. Maybe think about trading for either a little older heavier truck or up to a heavier truck and thank us all later.

Don't risk it. Not worth it.

You did ask the question and now you've got a few replies.......Sounds like you need to upgrade the truck but don't get disheartened and dump the boat, she looks great, love the white, congrats!

It's not the pulling, it's the Stopping.

We had a 67 with the 425, much better looking!

So not to derail but there was a less chrome version called a Delmont.

As for the OP, way to much for that as most said, not the pulling all in the stopping.

jtbooten 09-25-2015 06:40 PM

I love the solid white look. Very clean. If you do get another truck, go with a 2500. I pulled with a 1500 for 2 years and you have to be very alert the whole time.

chaoscube 09-28-2015 10:27 AM

Thanks for the good comment !
Honestly, I think I will keep my truck. I really love it and the boat ramp is very not far from my home and there is close to nobody on the road I'm taking to go there. I have the brakes on the trailer and brand new performance brakes on the truck and the setup is braking well. I tried my friend's F150 and my truck pull and stop better that the F150. But, if I'm going to travel on a longue distance roadtrip...I will rent a 2500 or something like that for sure.

Rots of ruck!
Not sure why you started this thread knowing you are over the limits of your truck by likely a 1000 lbs.
Were you hoping someone would jump in and endorse your setup?

I know it would be around pushing to the limits...but I was looking for some opinions and if someone know for real what could be the weight of the boat + trailer. The specs are 4800lbs dry hull but with all the rest...it's hard to know how much it should really weight. I have a Myco alumnium trailer so I guess it is a little lighter than a regular steel trailer.

I was towing 500lbs more than the tow capacity on my last Ford truck and never had a problem. I adapt my driving with the trailer and drive safe even more than usually.

Anyways, I have the boat since a couple weeks now and I'm finally happy of how it rides at the rear of my truck. Sorry if some people dosent like the idea...and thanks for the comments

Here is a towing thread gone right:

Here is the big problem my insurance company made me sign a waver that my truck was factory rated to tow my boat. With that said were do you think you would be if you had an accident.
