2008 38 Lightning shifting hard

Have a 2008 38 Lightning that is shifting hard.. both sides going forward and reverse. Is it just this year or are there adjustments to be made? Only 115 hours on the boat total.
My friend has a 35 foot 2005 that shifts very smooth. Cables were gone thru and no issues.
