How do you get to the sending unit on a 2005 27?

The gas gauge never was accurate and now it reads full even with 15 gallons in the tank. How do you get to the sending unit?

Check under bench seat. You should see a round access port. It should be under there.

I think this is a common problem. Mine reads full all the time. When the gauge fluctuates, I'm basically empty. I have 2 spare tanks so I'm not going to worry about it.
I've read you can adjust the sender to make it more accurate but haven't tried.

theres a small hatch under the seat. Should be a wire or two. Disconnect and replace, the sending units are generic, think theres only like two kinds, you can find them at amazon or anywhere. But if the issue stays, then I would hook up a flow meter.

On average what would you estimate the cost of a sending unit to be? I am in need of one also. I'd look it up myself but I don't know what I am looking for exactly.

Theyre like 20 bucks. Like I said you need to pull the old one out to see which one of the two you have. Make sure you get a new gasket with it. https://www.amazon.com/Moeller-Marin...t+sending+unit

Once the new one comes compare to the old one as the new one might have to be snipped or bent a certain way as I remember.

Thanks guys. My gauge never moved until it was down half a tank and then the need would bounce off full over waves. Once it showed half a tank it had about 15 gallons. It has quit doing ever that.

That's the norm for 99% of the Fountains. With the tank being tapered to the bottom and sitting non level, you'll never get an accurate reading as the fuel level is not on par to current capacity amount. When it's full, it reads full. When it's empty, it'll read empty. Everything between is just for chits and giggles. Run till its reads 1/2, then find a gas pump. When it reads 1/4, have your fenders hanging out

you probably have a livorsi sending unit if you have livorsi gauges. On the livorsi sending unit, there are two very small Phillips screw heads that adjust the resistance in the sending unit. One screw is for full and one is for empty. When I first got my 06, it read full unit it was about half, then as the story goes you out of gas. The problem was in the sending unit, gauge words fine. I filled my tanks, then adjusted each screw to read just to the full line. Mine were set pretty accurately in the empty mode. Now, my needle actually moves as the boat uses fuel and I think when they now read half full, I have half a tank of gas. Not sure of the shape of my tanks as I have the express cruiser, don't know if they are rectangular or angled, but seems to be reading somewhat accurately now. If adjusting the screws doesn't work, I would recommend a livorsi sending unit as it is just an aluminum tube. Doesn't move around like the one above. Good luck.

Yup, the livorsi tube one is what I just put in my 32 fever. Works great, better then the stock one.

I have a 2005 32 Fever. My gauge never reads full. Even when I have gas spewing all over the side of the boat filling it up. Then after about 75 miles the empty light starts blinking at me. This sucks because I know in my head that it's not empty but my heart says STOP! I never use more than 60 gallons in a weekend, so with a 130 gallon tank that means I'm packing around 70 gallons of extra weight all the time. I'd rather run on the bottom half of the tank. My boat has Livosy guages, do you think I can adjust it or can I get a new sender and fix the problem?

I was told by fountain my 2000 32 is a 115 gallon tank. The only way you can ever come close to full is when it is sitting in the water with the front up.

That said this weekend when on plane mine was reading just past full. Went south and wanted to put some gas in before we headed back but all were closed so I gave it a shot. Just as I was coming off plane the tank was reading just under a 1/4 and the time it took to go from 1/2 to there was about 10min at 60.

Made the 30-35 min idle on Home to my lift. I need to get some cans of gas to put in as I doubt I have enough to even make it to the marina.

I opened up the cover under the seat today and saw on the tank 114 gal, not sure where I read it was 130. So that solves a little of the problem. The fact you say it won't get full on the trailer sounds right too. The tank looks like it slopes towards the front a little while on the trailer and the fill is in the front and sender is in the back. So I need to think of it more as a 100 gallon tank. So now it must be reading empty with about 35 in the tank rather than 65. That is more reasonable. I messed with the adjusting screws and it seems like I could dial it right in if I knew for sure how much was in the tank right now. I'm guessing 35 so I think I will raise the hitch up to replicate sitting in the water and set it at 1/4 tank. That should leave me 5 or 10 gallons when it reads empty. Then I'll fill it up on the way to the lake and after I drop it in the water I'll mess with the dial to set the gauge at full.

ROB FREEMAN 07-14-2016 08:41 AM

Yes they should be able to accurately be adjusted. Just takes a good working gauge and proper sender and a little adjustment. Save yourself the headache of not knowing how much fuel you have. That would drive me nuts. I'd fix that right away. Have a good weekend folks
