32' speeds

What kinda speeds can be expected from non stepped 32 with......
454MPI
502MPI
hp500's

Are the 454 underpowered?
Any issues that those that are owners of these can shed light on?
Possibly considering the 32' as next boat.

Thank ya, thank ya very much.
Elvis.

I have a 1999 32 that I love. Great boat. The boat test sheet from Fountain with 502's says 76+. Mine with 502's runs a GPS 78+ loaded. I drove one with 500's and it went 83 on GPS. The dealership said once broken in it should run about 85. The 454's , I think somewhere around 73-75.

The only issue I have had is with the bilge blowers. The outlets in the rear of the boat allow some water in and after a while that kills the blower. Not a big deal...cheap and easy to replace.

Yours with 1000hp=95 mph+ :D

US1 Fountain 10-02-2002 09:45 PM

Thanks SeaDated,

I inquired about a '94 32' with 454MPI's. Was told it was a 70mph boat. Was hoping for a little more umph!

BTW, I have heard of the 32's have excessive swim platform exhaust rumble because of the plateform being nearly under water. Whats your opinion on this?

ALFSTER,
Awl heck, I can do that with my little ol 625 hp. GPS needs recalibrated though. :D Sorry haven't been able to hook up at Cumberland. Maybe next year with my new boat! ;)

baja bailey 10-03-2002 01:30 AM

Only 32 I ever rode in was a 1993 with twin 540 (600HP each), ran 87 on radar.

yzbert 10-03-2002 10:11 AM

us1

it will do a strong 72 on the liquid filled speedo.:)

yes the 32 does have swim platform vibration at idol. goes away under power. I don't think that my 454's under power the 32. they are all stock so there is alot more speed in them.

just getting ready to take the seats out of it to get some tears repaired over the winter, so if your interested let me know i will stop.:D

great boat call me if you have any questions.

Yep, the platform does vibrate at idle with the exhaust open. It doesn't do it with the exhaust closed or under power.

I think the 70-72 would be right without the step bottom. Is that model year boat a step bottom?

yzbert 10-03-2002 10:29 AM

sea dated

1994 was the last year they made the none step on the 32. yes the boat is non step.

Jerry
If I had your money I'd buy a brand new 42:)

You could probably find a 35 in the same year for not much more money, and have a better hull

If you had my money, we would have $10 between the 2 of us! :(

The 35 has crossed my mind, but so has the 42, 47 and 65'. One step at a time boss.

US Fountain 1, Had a 27, 32, now a 35. Save yourself the trouble and by a 35. Had a 2000 32, 500 H.P. Carb. motors and it ran 84 mph on GPS, once. Mostly ran 83.5. That was a stepped hull boat. I know of at least two 35 classics that run 84-85 with 500 H.P.'s and my twinstep ran 88 mph with the same motors and they all ride better that the 32. They are better balanced, and have more room. Don't get me wrong I loved my 32, but the 35 is alot more boat for close to the same money. The exhaust does vibrate the boat at idle, but if you run the silent choice, if equipped, that goes away. You might as well because you can't hardly hear the motors at idle because the exhaust is almost under water. Do you do your own mechaical work? If you want to make a boat mechanic cry, take a 32 Fountain in and ask to have the spark plugs changed. I looked like I got into a fight with a mountain lion from all the scratches and cuts on my arms, the motors are so close together. Finally I took it to a mechanic, he said never again!! The 35 motor compartment is a little easier to work in. And their isn't that much difference in towing the 32 or the 35.

My 93 32’ with ProCharged 502’s goes an honest 82. I have heard that the 35 is a more efficient hull. The problem with going straight to a larger boat is that the insurance companies don’t like it. I had a hard enough time going from my 21’ Scarab to the 32’. I’ve always felt that the 32 is the perfect size for a first twin screw boat. As far as the vibration, let a couple of girls sit back there so that they can enjoy the vibration. It’s like a 1000 hp vibrator.

I went from a 27 Checkmate to a 35 classic and a week later I was like: why didn't I just buy the 35 in the first place?

I can't speak for the 32 but the 35 with 500's is a blast to drive.

you never have to shake after peeing off the back

Airwolf767 10-05-2002 11:19 AM

Hey Jerry how is it going? I wish I knew you were interested in the 32 I would have made a point to hook up in Monroe. But anyways come on down and we'll go for a ride before winter if you would like. My 32 w/500's will indicate 88 on speedo with a gps speed of 84.2 (his spring) half tank of gas and only one passenger. The 32 is a great boat, big cabin (compared to 35) awesome acceleration. Oh did I mention I would like to sell the boat???!!!! Give me a call if I can help you with anything about my 32 or another. 317-272-0759

US 1 Fountain, I am running a 91 32 that had 502 magnums from the factory. It ran 69 mph on gps. Now I have a couple of Tyler Crockett 600's that push it 85 to 87. And I love the exhaust revirberation at the back!

US1 Fountain 10-13-2002 11:08 AM

Thanks for all the replies!

Went and looked at a 32'. Haven't been able to see a 35' yet, but, from Boat traderOnline, there is quite abit difference in price.

Airwolf,
You still thinking of going bigger?
Believe it or not, the thought has crossed our mind to see about taking a peek at your boat since you are near. Just to see it and talk with you about any pros/cons, out of our price range though. Thanks for the offer. We still go to Monroe every weekend. Next weekend to Ohio River for a boat burn party, then as weather allows.

Scott,
Could you not live any further North? :p That would make for an all day road trip. The 32' that we looked at had crackes right at the glove box and at the corners of the windsheid, how about yours? Someone that looked at mine said it is a common problem. Mine is 100% crack free, so something I was not aware of. Maybe because it has only seen lake water. Do you have any better drive pics that you can send me? More concentrated on the condition of the drives and the cones installation? Send to the address that you sent the 1st set. My Hotmail account usually can't handle large files. Who added the hyd steering? Is that full? Thanks.
Jerry

Are you sure I am out of your price range??
