My 177's were spinning about as fast as they would go and still be happy, multi vee belt and they screamed like banshees'

for those that are curious, that loose laminate sticking out with the red threads is peel ply. Its used to help balance that resin/fabric ratio, pull out excess and put a nice final working surface after the epoxy is cured.( :D giving away the glassdave secrets one at a time lol)

I may have missed it but why did you glass in the ballast tank pickup? Was the tank removed?

The peel ply thing is actually a pretty nice trick to have in the bag, Sparky at Viscous Powerboats gave me that one years ago and its one of my most passed along tips. . . . now get that thing in the water! |

Isn't the blower whine primarily the cog belt; the air pulsing out of the cogs as the belt closes in? Multi-vee belts don't whine, right? I hear a slight bit of gear whine with my ProCharger, but the multi-vee is whisper quiet. Someone told me years ago that, if you drill holes in the valleys of the cogwheels that the bulk of the whine goes away. I've never seen one done to verify, though. Thanks. Brad. |

Not to derail this thread, but I'm just answering a question. The Whipple uses a rib pulley like the serpentine belt style pulley with a twin screw compressor. The new design of the twin screw is quieter and creates less heat as well as more power at a lower boost then the previous 3.3 supercharger.
That's what I thought. I was just referencing your comment about "less noise" from the Whipples. I was of the opinion that blower whine was primarily from the cogbelts (and maybe some form the sync gears, especially if they were straight cut gears). We've seen a few builds where cogbelts were used with Whipples, and my thought was that the whine would still be there. I was curious if the blowers themselves were quieter, or if it was just the lack of cogbelts you were referring to. Just trying to pack knowledge into this (hopefully decreasingly) vapid space between my ears. Thanks. Brad. |

It was in the way for the left side intercooler pickup. I will eventually come up with a way to feed the ballast tank again.
