Pulling motors

I just finished pulling the 2nd motor in my 32 Fever, and have no clue how its all going back together, I pulled them both with the exhaust manifolds on and had a heck of time getting to motor mount bolts. Has anyone here ever done this and how did you reinstall them? also I keep hearing about using the tool to align them when they go in but I don't see anyway for any adjustment with the offshore style mounts??? Any advice is appreciated.

Did you pull the drives before removing the engines

T_traylor1 03-12-2017 07:22 PM

Yes pulled drives first then pulled motor

They are a bitc h to work on. You may have to go back in without the inside manifolds or any at all. Then they are really fun to install later.

Correct the off shore mounts don't have adjustment, the alignment tool is to make sure the input shaft of the drive and the coupler is at the correct angle if this is a bravo boat

565532[/ATTACH Did you take on to much? I have always pulled off exhaust manifolds first unless the bolts are frozen. Get as much out of the way before you lift the motors out.

I didn't think there was any adjustment, so in a perfect world it should just go right back together I suppose

T_traylor1 03-13-2017 08:59 AM

Yea those inside motor mounts look fun, as does installing the manifolds in the boat...

F-2 Speedy 03-13-2017 09:08 AM

there should of been fiber washers between the inner transom plate and the bellhousing, just make sure it goes back in that way

Pulled mine in my 32 a few times, Get a longer punch to run thru the holes of the motor mount & off shore bracket. Gives you the ability to move the motor pretty easily & run a bolt thru. Find someone with really long arms or someone short & skinny to able to lay down. Mine had aluminum brackets on the stringers to be able to stand or lay on if you can get down there. Tape those fiber washers to bell housing too. I always left the exhaust on.

black RTV is good on those washers

T_traylor1 03-13-2017 09:50 AM

Now that you mention that I'm hoping they're still up there and didn't fall in the bilge

Buy a new kit with new washers and springs if they are somewhat old.

F-2 Speedy 03-13-2017 10:54 AM

The new kits don't have springs, say's in the instructions to pitch em.

I left my headers on but then had to take port inside off to get pipes on. The headers are easier to work on but still not enough room to get an arm through unless you are a 8 year old boy.

Getting to the motor mounts is a PITA no matter what.

After taking these out I'm pretty sure my next fountain will have staggered motors so there's more room to work

BLUEMAGIC 03-14-2017 06:30 AM

I installed 588 tall decks with Stellings big tube headers on my 1998 32. Randy at Stellings built these specific for my application allowing me to access anything needed between the blocks. Nothing beats custom built over production headers. Standard headers in a 32 allows no servicing on anything between the motors which can result in some real heartache

Hey Tommy-glad to hear you're making progress on the boat. Couple things- leave the brackets that mount to the stringers in the boat, and pull the engine with the offshore mount still attached. The manifolds are not fun to work around, but pulling the risers off the manifolds makes a world of difference. Coming out, leave as much on the engine as you can, and the same with going back in-as you've found not a ton of room to work with engines still in the bilge. Taking the trim pumps out will help as well. The engine mount to bracket bolts, I used a 4 foot extension on my impact and had somebody run it for me while I held the nuts with a wrench. As far as aligning the engine (coupler to gimbal) I have the alignment tool and you're more than welcome to use it.

but I hear you on the staggered set up! Id be happy with a non-staggered 35 tho too

T_traylor1 03-14-2017 07:08 PM

It's been a hard to get motivated to work on it for sure, the one motors done the others ready to go to machine shop. Need to find someone to set all the timing and stuff when's it's back together, in a perfect world all the alignment should still be good, but maybe should check it. But I feel a 42 would make life much easier

Your starboard starter is so going out next time you run it.
