2008 lightning 38 props

what props are u other full staggered guys out there running? Top speed? Elevation? Just bought an '08 with 525s. Has ITS XRs with 35 pitch Maximus and it's a dog and will barely get out of the hole at lake Powell (3700 ft elevation) curious what is working for others. Also what is the best technique to get on plane?

Do you have the performance report? If not you can get it from fountain, propellers will be on the report. 35 pitch seems large, my 35 lightning uses 32 pitch maximus, but gets on plane ok. It just takes some time and practice. My boat originally came with 32 6 blade herings, I am waiting on a set now, ran 102 on the performance report.

We have an 07 38 with stock 600SCI and run Maximus 32. They are bone stock not labbed and run them up to 5200, they need to be dialed in but close enough for now. Run right at 100, previous props were Maximus 32 but labbed and ran 5400 104MPH. Our boat was delivered with Hering 33 but did not say 5 or 6 blade or rake. on performance report. Have you contacted Fountain to get a copy of your report? In my opinion if you have 1.50 ratio, 35 Maximus is too big a prop for 525s. I have a friend with your exact set-up that has run every prop on the planet, PM me and I can put you in touch with him.
Remember most of the stagger 35s may be running big props but their gear ratio may not be 1.50, think it's 1:36.

Thanks for the info. I do have the performance report and it appears these are the props that were run during the test. 96mph at 5350 rpm I think. What elevation are u guys running at? And what's the best way to get on plane? I read u want to start with tabs and drives down and start bringing tabs up at around 15 mph?

Also report shows 1.5 gear ratio

Good friend had exact same boat here on the Potomac River in VA, 2008 38 525 ITS 1:50 boat and it came from Fountain with 35P Maximus on it (have copy of performance report) and they were the best performing prop for the setup here, we are about dead sea level and boat ran 92-94 all day long loaded and full of fuel. We tried 34.s and even 33P 6 blades and nothing turned the mph the 35P did. after he whippled the boat the 35P Maximus was still the best prop we ran only change was we 1:36 the drives.. boat was a pig getting on plane with the 1:50 gearing and got up easier after we 1:36 it. mike

Drives tucked and tabs down. I keep revs at or just under 3,000, once boat feels like it's getting on top of some water, bring tabs up to neutral then adjust the drives. During this whole scenario I'm modulating the throttle to keep that 3,000 RPM to keep XR beating to a minimum. Look into getting the dual throttle switches, 1 for tabs and 1 for drives, Livorsi sells the kit and diodes to make it happen. Easy install and you never have to take your hand off the throttles.
