Most 38 Fountains are just fine on the drives running 525's. The rub is that the 2007's and newer had their X dim jacked up so high that they were a pain to get on plane and have a reputation for throwing both Herring props and eating some drives. Some peeps put a spacer in their XRs and while they were a few MPH slower it made the boats much more user friendly and reliable.

We have an 07 Full Stagger 38 600SCI and XR/ITS. Runs 100-102 and have hit 104 on a perfect day. Changed props to stock out of the box 32 Maximus, full diameter. Lost a few MPH but they are holding up well and not cracking like the labbed 32 Maximus did. Drives rebuilt at 200hrs, 230 hrs currently and no drive problems so far. I keep rpm down at 3,000 getting on plane and let boat hook up before getting into the throttles.
