Fountains with SC525s???????

In the near future I'm thinking about stepping into a 42Lightning.
I've been thinking about purchasing one with staggered SC525s.
My question is:
Does the 525 hold it's value being that it is a blown engine?
I've been told that dollar for dollar it doesn't hold value compaired
to the same boat with 500HP engines in it.
Any input would be appreciated.

Our 1993 42 was powered with twin HP525SC's when we purchased it 5 years ago.
The HP500's had the valve spring and oil consumption issues which scared me away from them.
I liked the 525's in the beginning because they were bullet proof and had a good reputation for holding up to lengthy periods of punishment...Not to mention they were mildly supercharged! My first taste of big bad blower motors.
I ran the **** out of them since we like to go fast...heavy boat and all.
I had them rebuilt at around 450+ hours.
The blowers and carbs got a bit leaky and we thought since it went this far why not go through them completely, upgrade to roller cams and use the next size smaller blower pulleys for more punch.
Well we only got 580HP out of them at 6psi with the 177's...not much of a bang.
The thing I am getting at is that 454ci is not much in displacement for any real power for a big boat.
I would have rather had HP500's to start with and at rebuild time stroke them to 4.25" for a total of 540ci.
Or better yet find a boat with some 540ci "Bulldogs" and have the right stuff all together at the get go.
We did sell our motors for $19K with one season on them after rebuild.
A guy with a 28' V swapped out his 330's for these and loves them to this day.
As for us, we went with 557ci tall deck motors with 10-71's...now shes got some punch!

the 525sc would be sweet.. but the Yanmars.. would be killer.. the range on those with the diesel are over double and about he same speed..

Still workin my way up the ladder in the boost dept.
We are at 6psi now and runnin at about 90 turning 5350RPM
Going to drop a tooth off the top pulley and that is going to be about it for power. 50T/51T
The drives have been holding up to all the WOT testing here on Lake Mich.
We used the RedLine stuff in them this time and so far no issues.
They should last no problem for the next 5 months...all they have to do now is hang there and not leak.
:p
