Mercruiser 500efi lifter replacement???

I have to replace my lifters in my 500efi. Teague marine said crane cams 13532 will be direct replacement and is a bar style lifter. Also said will work with stock pushrod length. I am concerned they will not work with stock pushrods. Does anyone know if they will and does anyone have experience with these lifters. Thanks

That’s what you want.

Add a -16 at the end and it’s the complete set.

So the original pushrods will work with those lifters correct?

yes. Are you also doing springs while it’s apart?

Don't ask... yes... just did the heads, springs, valves, etc... 20hrs ago but didn't do lifters and a lifter just ***ged out on me and bent a valve so changing lifters now.

I heard that the stock lifters were a odd length to begin with, something Mercury Racing did for some reason. Is it true you can actually get by with a standard BBC lifter and different size push rods for a lot less? If the case what lifters and what length pushrods? 850 for a set of lifters seems crazy to me.

Runina, how many hours on the valves/lifters since last rebuild? I have a pair of 500EFI with 250 hours and trying to gauge if its 'time' or not to get the top end done....

RuninaFever 01-29-2019 03:33 AM

I did my top end at around 200hrs, only because I was getting a little water reversion because of the silent choice set up and I had to pull the heads anyway because one of the exhaust ports was showing a little corrosion from the water. Did away with the silent choice and it's been all good since.

Thanks, i assume your application is salt water? I am fresh water. Going to have leak down and compression done and see where i am at and make a decision then based on the numbers.
