Default How fast will 27 run with 800hp

Built a whippled 540 for a customer, hes putting it in a 97 27 foot. Made 880 hp on dyno at 5900, probably make 800 in boat w marine exhaust. Hes going to start out w 1.50 xr and 30lh labbed merc and 30lh labbed hydromotive. What kind of speed should he see, at what point is this hull speedwise going to get stupid, bow hook barrel roll and be upside down or something to that effect? No extension box, factory prop cl on drive, not raised. Thanks, smitty

My guess would be around 90mph. There is a member that was running close to the century mark with a NA 800 on a straight bottom 27, obviously he had the boat dialed in.

Interested. Have a friend who just bought a 27. Setup right I’d say 95 maybe more.

Me and Jimmy V have had a few good races thru the years, my 272 Baja against his 27 fountain. We've swapped wins back and forth. I see him at hotboat hardy party every fall. Ours boats were dead even when I run mine on full kill, with my 92/93 octane pulley I could walk away from him easily having a bunch more hp/tq than him BUT if we raced long enough id be all done at 96 ish and he'd eventually reel me in (talking a 5+ minute flatout race), Smitty
