How fast will 27 run with 800hp

Built a whippled 540 for a customer, hes putting it in a 97 27 foot. Made 880 hp on dyno at 5900, probably make 800 in boat w marine exhaust. Hes going to start out w 1.50 xr and 30lh labbed merc and 30lh labbed hydromotive. What kind of speed should he see, at what point is this hull speedwise going to get stupid, bow hook barrel roll and be upside down or something to that effect? No extension box, factory prop cl on drive, not raised. Thanks, smitty

Which 27 is it going in?

articfriends 08-21-2018 12:39 PM

97 single step 27

Let us know! I think I remember a thread saying they get hairy.

My guess would be around 90mph. There is a member that was running close to the century mark with a NA 800 on a straight bottom 27, obviously he had the boat dialed in.

99.9% that is Valako's boat.

Interested. Have a friend who just bought a 27. Setup right I’d say 95 maybe more.

Me and Jimmy V have had a few good races thru the years, my 272 Baja against his 27 fountain. We've swapped wins back and forth. I see him at hotboat hardy party every fall. Ours boats were dead even when I run mine on full kill, with my 92/93 octane pulley I could walk away from him easily having a bunch more hp/tq than him BUT if we raced long enough id be all done at 96 ish and he'd eventually reel me in (talking a 5+ minute flatout race), Smitty

How fast with that motor in a 1997 29 Fever?

I’ve always heard a 29 is faster than a 27 with the same power. I know the owners(current and previous) of a 27 and a 29 on the same lake, both with 496s and both are 2002+ models. The 27 is defiantly faster. Maybe big horsepower is different because of handling or???

I had a 2000 27 650 hp and it was not comfortable (to me) with that much power.

I built a 500 efi that wasnt dynoed for a 99 27 fountain (might be a 2000/2001) , probably 580 ish hp, boat runs 79 gps pretty easy in ideal conditions, IDK how a 99 hull compares to a 97 though, Smitty
