2003 Fountain 27 quick oil change

The bilge pumps are mounted too close to the transom for the quick oil change hose to exit via the drain plug. Is it possible to move the port bilge pump forward 2" so the hose can exit for oil changes?Or did I just answer my own question.BTW I'm in love with this boat for goofing around the Puget Sound area

Some folks have been known to drill and add a second bilge plug hole, just for the oil change kit.
You just have to make sure it's lower than the oil pan.

I've rigged up a pump mounted to a 5 gallon bucket - ran a hose (from the pump) to my oil drain hose to suck out the oil from the pan. My trial went very well - so between now and next time, I'm going to source hose and/or fittings that thread into the drain hose to make for a cleaner connection.

I did this for both engine and transmission - much easier than running the hose through the drain plug.

Thanks that sounds easier, will look at fittings to do the same thing

Have a Jabsco pump on bucket, basic West Marine store issue, that I got the fittings to go to the Merc oil drain hoses. Few simple fittings, works great.

Do you have the thread size for the Merc hose fittings?

Not sure on size, but what I did was take the plug from the Merc drain hose to the local hardware store, the plumbing section, and sort of reverse engineer the thing to a hose fitting that fit into the Jabsco pump hose. I just snug up my adapter to the Merc hose and pump away, works about the same as using the pump on the dipstick fitting only you are drawing from the bottom of the pan. Rigged it this way because for years I kept the boat in a boathouse slip and it made in water changes easier. I could take a picture of the thing if that would help.

Easiest fastest way is buy a suction tank called the slurper. I’ll have to look for the phone number. It’ll suck all the oil out through the dip stick in a minute or so. Punch a couple holes in top of oil filter and it’ll drain to pan.

not a fan of the hose change kits. They all seem to eventually leak, all the crap blocks the plug hole if any debris gets caught up in it (guess not an issue with 2 plugs) and I don’t want to trust a hose bouncing around the bottom of the bilge with an engine.
