700sci issues
 

I’m having problems with my 700s shifting from neutral to reverse and shutting down can’t seem to isolate the problem… I have Latham stage three system with whipple super chargers. Any ideas ?

What is Latham Stage Three System? You mean Whipple Stage Three?

When I had problem with my mine dieing when shifting, it ended up being a trans cable binding up - which prevented the shift interrupt switch from fulling switching. You can try disconnecting that switch as a trial, but Mercury wants it there - probably to protect the weak NXT transmission. Some people run with the switch disconnected - but it's likely there for a reason.

Whipple with Latham electronic controls .. still throwing parts at it .. Throttle positioning sensor .. new throttle cable… Re map computer.. everything seems to be operating correctly and within spec. Absolutely frustrating.. starboard did it last season and the tps solved it.

when you say shutting down, are they stumbling and die when put in reverse ? is this a 700 NXT package.....need to know more about the boat drives and wheels

Yes it’s the nxt package.. Neutral to reverse and then dead. No stumble … it’s now not doing it as often but still doing it. Occasionally it will die in Neutral.

Mines not exactly the same set up, but same symptoms a year a go, would die going into reverse off the trailer, replaced both the IAC 's and it stopped

Try replaced that too.. grrr

After throwing all kinds of parts at it it's better.. keeping the drives neutral at the dock seems to help to. Livable but have to pay attention If the wind is ripping and have wave action cause if it dies no power steering

what size wheels you spinning, must be loading the engine pretty hard, you might try trimming up a bit to aerate the prop some

And speaking of IAC's, if you don't have fuses on them, do it this week. You'll save your ECU's when the IACs fail. Long thread here on OSO with pics, info, etc. Search my posts.

Then keep a couple of spare fuses and an IAC in the boat to save your day/weekend.
