1990 fever 29 rear engine hatch weight

Is it normal for the rear hatch to be extremely heavy? I’m curious as I tried lifting it without the actuator connected, felt super heavy

Yes, it’s heavy!

hmm so should dry up ober winter since it’s being stored in heated garage. “hoping”

It might, but I would store it with the hatches open to allow the water to run out. You will know in a day or so, if it water logged,

Wet or dry lol:evilb:My guess 500 pounds leave it open inside it will dry !They get more heavy when left outside without protection

i have found it will not dry unless you remove the foam and replace or let it air dry

I figured it should be pretty light, save some overall weight but when I tried lifting!! I was very surprised how ridiculously heavy it was lol

Fiberglass alone is really heavy!

I have often wondered about how to make a strong but lightweight engine hatch. One you could walk or lay on. Factory hatches or ridiculously heavy. Seems like an opportunity to save weight where it matters, the stern.

New interior cured that problem a lot lighter now but a guess 400 - 500lbs dry?

I know on my 32 it is very heavy, takes 3 to put in on. I have done it with two but not fun.

And its dry, I had mine apart and it was still heavy, 3/4" ply that is glassed over, and mine even has the fiberglass cutouts that raise the height over the motors. Then again I thought mine was heavy until I help a buddy with his 35 Cafe hatch!

I guess mines absolutely fine than 🙂 was super worried first time I lifted it! Definitely did not expect that. I’m surprised people are not building from lighter material
