Love your boat!
Is this the first generation step bottom? Are your 500's staggered or side-by-side? What top speed are you seeing with a 1000HP? |
I cant see it

Back4More,
this is the latest bottom design with the big steps, i ordered the boat with the classic deck, hate those tall windshields, it has side by side 500hps. With the staggered motor set up you lose 15-18 inchs of cockpit space with staggered. ive been in a few staggered 42s and didnt see much if any difference, not to warranty giving up the space. as for as mph 78-80 all day any day regardless of heat-humidity, fuel load etc, and with low fuel and cool weather 81-82 later Dave |
Thanks for the info Dave...I'm trying to find out if its worth starting over on a better/newer model 42.

i see in your profile that your already in a 42 and it sound like you have big motors so im sure you have the speed, as for as better newer boat i can honestly say that i believe the quality is better in the early 90's boats than the present boats, not that i have had any problems what so ever. there are a few little things that i think were better on my 90, i think the bilge area glass work was smoother, some of the panels fit a little nicer little things that i quess after owning two to compare, i can. what kind of speed are you getting out of your boat with the present power i would think your in the 90's how or the drives holding up, that is one reason i went to a newer boat i wanted to go faster and new if i started the bigger motor and blower route that i would start having drive problems and lose reliability, and god only knows if the boat doesnt run your not boating. later Dave |

Our '93 42 came with the Merc HP525SC's(side-by-side), and we ran it that way for 4 seasons till rebuild. We rebuilt them and I should have upgraded to a 420Mega blower but I was worried about drive issues with the original Bravos....and it was another season at 74mph. Then XR's came out and I considered the Blowers. Shortly later IMCO came out with the SC's and I could do a bit more but then it meant really getting into the motors and digging out some cubes. Decided to take them out and sell them for a new start... 557CI @800HP+ is what ended up in front of a pair of IMCO SC's. We blew a STBD drive at the near the end on last season and got it fixed in time for some more dialin runs. The drive had a pinion issue that was covered by IMCO. We upped the boost to get the rpm we wanted:D and it ended up at 90mph. Long way from 100mph with this bottom... I was thinking that a staggered "shallow" step 42 would be better suited for the 100mph mark and cover reliability issues. Do you notice any less ride quality in the rough out of your 98? |
i havent noticed any less of a ride in my 98, if any thing the 98 ride is a little softer and it has every bit of the same rough water handling capabilities as the 90. if your every done at loto look me up your welcome to drive the boat to make a comparison.

Another good reason to get my ass down there.
