Mark,
great job! when is your splash date?

Lee

Breathe Later 03-14-2003 07:22 AM

Thanks Lee,

I'm going to start the engine tomorrow. The forecast calls for 64 deg. so I'll pull the boat outside, start the engine, check the timing, etc. I've got to take more pics since the Teague XR outdrive is mounted and some other stuff like the sea strainer is mounted too. What's that about your friends boat equipped with a Whipple getting a view of your stern? What prop are you running?

Thanks,

Mark

Mark,
I am currently running a 32 Bravo RH that I bought and had labbed by Throttle Up Propellors of Largo Fl. After trying about six or seven props this one works the best so far! I am very impressed with the workmanship on your project, very neat and clean install!

Updates on 27' Fountain project:

It was in the upper 60's last weekend so I pulled the boat outside and started the engine for the first time..... WOW!!

With the CMI's the engine sounds awesome, very impressive.

Here are some pics with the new outdrive (Teague Platinum XR)

More transom:

I machined new pins to retain the rams to the Latham stainless rear cap cause the original cap from Fountain uses a different style pin.

I've still got some finishing up to do in the engine compartment, securing wires, hoses, etc. I will post the pics of the diamond plate as well soon.

Mark

Hey Too Old
Us Fountain guys stick together;) :p
Breathe Later- cant wait to see the numbers on that little mother!

Breathe Later 03-21-2003 06:58 AM

Twinn, Too Old, RJ, Indy, Thanks for your compliments. I'll be doing a similar project next year on a 42' Fountain. The work will be mostly engine and outdrive related (not as nice as Raypanics!).

I need to keep busy during the winter and working on boats is the next best thing to boating!

Best Regards,

Mark

INDY27 05-05-2003 05:42 AM

Mark,
Just checking to see if you have run the the boat yet?

Lee

Breathe Later 05-05-2003 07:49 AM

Indy,

Although we've had some nice weekend weather, the water's real low on the Chain and at least 2 people have dinged props out there. The prop I have on now from Hydro is returnable for a small restocking fee (I can't use my old props cause the new XR drive has a bigger spline dim'n.). Last night we had alot of rain so it looks like Sat (10 May) I'll splash it. It's been started waxed and ready to go. I'll post updates.

Thanks,

Mark

INDY27 05-05-2003 11:53 AM

what size and rotation is the hydro?

Breathe Later 05-05-2003 01:13 PM

Indy,

It's a 28" LH 4 blade Hydro. That was the suggested starting point by the folks at Hydromotive. I used a 23" before the mods and that was about perfect for the boat/engine combination.

INDY27 05-05-2003 04:27 PM

I ran a 24 Hydro rh before the Procharger and a 29 rh with it at 5200 rpm's. Both of those props were stock. Good luck, I think your boat is gonna fly!

Lee,

What speeds are you getting now? Any problems with the engine?

Thanks,

Mark

INDY27 05-07-2003 06:06 AM

Mark,
My best speed so far is 85-86 in perfect conditions, I can get 84-85 most of the time. Right now Throttle Up is making a few adjustments to my prop so hopefully I will get a little more out of it! To date I have had no problems at all with the engine, my only complaint with the Procharger is after a wide open run the back of the boat gets a light film of soot. A freind of mine here has a Imco 2" shorty that we are going to try on my boat some time this summer and I will post the results here.

Mark,
How does the boat run?

Breathe Later 07-21-2003 07:30 AM

Indy27,

Sorry, I've been on vacation (fishing this time). I've had the boat to 84-85 gps @ 5400 It runs fantastic- cannot believe the difference. I sent my prop in for labbing and repitch up to 29" and hope to see 86 mph. I'll keep you posted.

zahndok 12-19-2003 02:47 PM

Did ya get the red diamond plate in yet? I'm trying to decide on Red or blue and would like to see any pics you could take.

how did you prep the bilge for paint

West Marine only has the grey. You should do 2 coats.

Mark,
How did you apply the paint in the bilge?

Thanks,
Lee

Breathe Later 01-12-2004 05:10 PM

Lee,

The bilge paint was applied by brush. The only prep work was a real thorough cleaning with Castrol degreaser and hot water, and a wipe down with acetone after a few days drying. The bilgekote is oil based and flows out to a smooth finish without brush marks.
