38 Fountain......revisted

Went back for a second look (which the wife wanted to do) and we all know this is GOOD. The 1st time the boat had about 8" of water inside of the cabin area and under the berth area (and it was inside).DUHH So, we were under the impression that this would be cleaned up and replace what ever is necessary. SURE
Went back Sat AM, the sale person was not coming in right away...............he had slept in. So, we looked at the boat again, with out assistance and found the water level gone, but the entire interior smelled of musty odors and the area under the berth, looked like it had not been touched and under the berth cushion it was still very wet. The wife said a few (four letter)words and said we're out of here. Another one bites the dust. Goes to show ya...........they are there only to sell boats, no matter what condition

I didn't know Sara knew any four letter words. :p :p

Bummer about the boat but you will find a good one.

Still looking for a new 38 Fever....:(

enticer 07-28-2003 07:55 PM

I did really like the one at National marine...BUT it had more water inside that it did on the out side, and now smells like a toilet. It will take alot to claen it up and didn't even try.
The Fever with the fairing and little wind deflector was real nice, A/C and other options that made to boat really nice. The 575's ....well, I don't think they are a great motor.......looking for high octane gas and high maintenance. Wanting speed between 85-90........90+ an option, but back to the high mainteance.
I now have a pair of 500 EFI's in the cat, and they run bullet proof and low maintenance
So, did you get anything out of all this jibberish??
Still, I can't tell the diff between a Fever and Lightning.
I did fell the extra width in the cockpit in the 2003 at National
The one at Pier 57 looks really nice and does not have the pronounced walk around built in. Or is it my imagination
P.S. Why in the hell do they stagger the motors all the time. The one I saw had a 1" stagger...not that is expectable.....it takes away from the cockpit....no one rides in the engine room

Enticer,

Did you look at Lake Cumberland Marine. They have a ton of used fountains. I believe Randy Hartmann(owner) has one new 38 and several used 38.

We just purchased a 42 from him. It has the windshield on it, but it is that new cut down version. Not as tall. It is nice. gives the boat better looks with the lower windshield. Don't know if they offer it on a 38.

After I read the response I did, I didn't understand it either.
Yes ... they had afew OL's, but the prices are up there. They are down one right now. The one they took to the ESLLBC Poker Run ....on the 19th, had abit of fire in the engine compartment and had to drop out of the PR. The Run had a lot of break downs and breakage

Yes, they have a few. All I can say and is a general opinion of the group I run with.......WATCH out for the Good deals.
They reason the wife and I rode up to there.....is they are fairly close and have a variety of boats. Although their stock is really down. They are moving to the other side of the runway. They had a Velocity (used) we wanted to see. Had never really seen one. Thought I would never be looking at a Fountain, until I saw the 38 Fever. I believe it is sold now, didn't see it on their web site anymore

Boating Fool --
I just checked out LCM web page. They must not keep up the site for inventory.....I will call them Tuesday, as the site says....for an update inventory list

Yeah, he has such a large inverntory that he has trouble with it. There are supposed to be bringing someone in from the outside to help with that problem.

Enticer,

We had a similar experieince with All Pro in Md. It quickly dawned on us that we needed a dealer we could work with and trust. When you go to look at a 'professionally maintained' 35 and the interior is wet because the batteries are dead and the boat was left outside with the bulge plug in...well you get the story.

We found good luck with the dealer 20 miles from the factory...Greenville Marine. They keep up with the latest going on at the factory. He had a listing from the factory of every used Fountain reported by dealers in stock in the U.S.. Because they're in NC, they get to sell new boats at last years price...a factory incentive. 5% on a new 38 is at least $10K off. And they can cut the production line if you order a boat because of their relationship with the factory. We got our 35 delivered in 5 weeks!

Joe Vernelson at Greenville Marine is a great guy to work with if you're looking for a used 38. If they're dealing with another Fountain dealer they will know what the boat is worth and will advise you if the price isn't right.

You can e-mail Joe at Greenvillemarine.com. Don't be fooled by the guy's backwoods accent. He probably sees Reggie every other day. He'll be able to get you a deal on a new or used 38 you'll have to think about.

All-Pro Marine........BEEN THERE and had been done by them also. Never again ...no matter how wonderful they make it sound. They were trained by the same used car salesmen up the road a ways..........I guess that's where they go after the car scene is no longer for them
